Job Description

What we are looking for

We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst responsible for bridging business, product, and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions across Charles River Investment Management System (IMS) and related front, middle, and back-office workflows. This role plays a critical part in defining product capabilities, gathering and documenting requirements, validating functionality, and ensuring the successful delivery of solutions that meet client and business needs.

The Senior Business Analyst will become a subject matter expert in Charles River products and investment workflows, partnering closely with clients, product managers, engineers, quality assurance, and implementation teams throughout the software development lifecycle. Working within a feature-focused Agile team, they will leverage both financial industry expertise and technical knowledge to analyze complex business processes, define functional requirements, troubleshoot issues, and drive enhancements that improve the overall client experience.

This role requires a combination of strong analytical skills, financial market knowledge, technical aptitude, and the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, and independently driving initiatives from concept through delivery.

What you are responsible for

Responsibilities:

  • Apply detailed knowledge of business requirements, investment workflows, and operational processes to support product development initiatives.
  • Research, analyze, and produce comprehensive business and technical requirement documents.
  • Analyze middle-office and back-office investment management workflows and create detailed functional specifications.
  • Work directly with clients and product management teams to gather business requirements and develop product feature specifications.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through implementation and validation.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to design, develop, implement, and refine product capabilities.
  • Plan and coordinate validation activities, perform hands-on functional testing, and develop verification plans and processes.
  • Provide feedback on product functionality, usability, and performance to help drive continuous improvement.
  • Review product documentation and ensure complete, accurate, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Support client beta programs and assist in training users on new product capabilities and releases.
  • Assist in managing project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and dependencies.
  • Collaborate with implementation and support teams to troubleshoot, reproduce, and resolve escalated client issues.
  • Participate actively in the Agile software development process, including daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Assist with Jira work item creation, refinement, prioritization, and tracking.
  • Participate in integration testing activities and environment setup as required.
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to review and approve test plans, test cases, and validation results.
  • Coordinate across engineering, QA, support, implementation, and product management teams to ensure successful and timely product releases.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and potential implementation challenges, proactively driving resolution to maintain project momentum.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience working within the software development lifecycle, preferably in Agile environments.
  • Strong experience analyzing investment management workflows, particularly middle-office functions including position and tax lot reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with financial instruments including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, derivatives, and related asset classes.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and stakeholder management.
  • Advanced writing skills with the ability to abstract and summarize highly detailed technical and business information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to reconcile conflicting requirements and data sources.
  • Ability to translate business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to collaborate effectively with software engineering teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL); familiarity with ETL technologies such as Kettle or Talend is a plus.
  • Demonstrated planning, organization, and scheduling skills.
  • Ability to independently learn new domains, remove obstacles, and proactively drive progress.
  • Curiosity and interest in financial markets, trading, and investment management technology.
  • Proven ability to produce comprehensive business, functional, and technical specification documents.
  • Experience working directly with clients to gather requirements and validate solutions.
  • Knowledge of one or more Charles River functional areas is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Education: BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or study of Business with an MIS background. MS/MBA degree strongly preferred

Salary Range:

$110,000 - $188,750 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
