Responsibilities

As one of our Platform Engineers, you will put our values up in lights by delivering these activities and outcomes:

  • Maintain the security, reliability, and availability of Aussie Broadband’s critical systems infrastructure. • Design and evolve platform architecture to deliver scalable, observable and secure solutions for internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across a broad range of experience and skills to deliver business outcomes.
  • Deliver highly available, scalable and resilient platforms and services to support business growth and initiatives.
  • Build, automate and enhance on-premises containerised & virtualised workloads, with a strong focus on infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Support development teams by providing platform capabilities, tooling and environments that accelerate delivery.
  • Champion reliability practices, including monitoring, alerting, incident response and post incident reviews.
  • Continuously improve platform performance, cost-efficiency and developer experience through proactive engineering and feedback loops.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, standards and knowledge sharing across the engineering organisation.
  • Act as an escalation point and provide technical guidance and support to other members of the systems team, helping resolve complex issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and help develop junior team members through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical training.

  • Take ownership of delivering assigned projects and business outcomes end-to-end, applying established architectural and design patterns with minimal oversight.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure platform reliability and rapid response to critical incidents.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about open-source, modern infrastructure, and continuous improvement.
  • An understanding of the telco industry and its operational and technology landscape
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (on-prem & upstream desired), including cluster lifecycle management and performance tuning.
  • Expert-level Linux system administration and orchestration, with a focus on automation and scale. • Proven experience designing and operating highly available, distributed systems in production environments.
  • A background with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and multi-cluster architectures. • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Tinkerbell, Helm).
  • A security-first mindset in platform and service design—covering secure configuration, encryption, network segmentation, and compliance with industry standards/frameworks.
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Otel, Jaeger).
  • Experience with open-source ecosystems and working to open/industry standards (e.g., CNCF projects, OCI, IETF standards/protocols).
  • A strong foundation in GitOps & automation tooling (ArgoCD, Git, CI/CD, Flux) to enable continuous delivery at scale.
  • Experience with networking concepts in containerised & virtualised environments (BGP, LoadBalancing, Ingress/Egress, eBPF/XDP, VPP)
  • Proficiency with Go or Python for scripting is desired.
