QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Sales/Marketing/Manufacturing or a related area discipline from a regionally accredited institution with relevant work experience in business;
  • Job applicants should have experience of business process improvements projects as well as lean and six sigma tools; 
  • Two to four (2-4) years of experience in business assistance, consulting, small business management, or managerial consulting or a combination of these;
  • Knowledge of the principles and requirements of starting and operating a successful small business and business conditions in St. Lucie County;
  • Knowledge of the business counseling and consulting process;
  • Strong financial analysis skills are necessary to effectively work with entrepreneurs and small business owners;
  • Knowledge of business financing alternatives and the ability to develop an effective professional network in the business financing and banking communities;
  • Significant professional skills as well as technical, interpersonal and high-level communication skills as this position requires significant public contact with small business clients, the business community, the professional and financial community;
  • Significant personal computer ability is required, including spreadsheet, word processing, and data management applications;
  • Skill with spreadsheets, including Excel, skill with other Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher is critical;
  • Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented; ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated;
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to successfully respond to needs of clients in a timely fashion;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) necessary to provide information to the administration, staff, and clients regarding program services and information;
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and highly independently;
  • Ability to uphold high ethical and professional standards;
  • Valid Florida driver's license.    

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:         

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:  

  • Professional and technical acumen to ascertain and deliver appropriate business counseling, training, and other services to the small business community in St. Lucie County;
  • One-on-one counseling of small business owners;
  • Contacting new and existing small businesses located in St Lucie County to recruit clients for the SBDC at IRSC to engage in advocacy on behalf of the SBDC and the small business community;
  • Integrating these professional efforts into the overall services and mission of the Florida SBDC Network.
  • Innovativeness, professional knowledge, accuracy of work, maintenance of confidentiality, and ability to meet deadlines are critical to this position;
  • Constructing and delivering presentations to business and civic organizations;
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programs, workshops, seminars, initiatives, and conferences for the SBDC at IRSC;
  • Representing the SBDC throughout the region at meetings, social engagements, and business activities. meets SBDC objectives, goals, and reporting requirements for counseling, training and other duties;
  • Conducting training sessions for small business clients;
  • Completing public relations functions on behalf of SBDC and SBDC Director in the development of programs to serve clients in St. Lucie County;
  • Development and retention of local funding match.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • One-on-One Counseling of SBDC clients in St. Lucie County and/or along the Treasure Coast region;
  • Representing the SBDC at IRSC with presentations to various boards, businesses, and agencies throughout St. Lucie County;
  • Traveling on a daily basis throughout St. Lucie County - weekly travel may be required to the other SBDC Offices located in IRSC’s four County District Area;
  • Attendance at conferences and workshops may require occasional overnight travel both in-state and out of Florida;
  • Working with the SBDC Director for promotion of SBDC programs;
  • Assisting with the development and execution of seminars, workshops, forums and conferences for the SBDC at IRSC;
  • Presenting to other companies and business and civic groups to create awareness of the SBDC at IRSC;
  • Maintaining appropriate records and assisting with reporting program activities to the appropriate Florida Small Business Development Center Network Office by submitting performance reports on a timely basis;
  • Ensuring compliance with the specifications of the grant and federal regulations;
  • Obtaining and retain Certified Business Analyst (CBA) designation as a condition of employment (CBA designation is issued by the Florida SBDC Network.);
  • Engaging in, as part of an agreed personal  improvement program, a wide variety of professional development in order to maintain credentials and professional knowledge, including attendance at conferences, meetings, seminars, training events, and workshops;
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends including some early morning for special events;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as directed by the SBDC Regional Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
