Job Description & Responsibilities
Persistent Systems is seeking a Field Network Engineer who has strong networking and systems engineering experience and is equally comfortable deploying and troubleshooting cloud-based routing architectures, Linux and Cisco infrastructure, and physical networking hardware in mission-critical environments. As a member of the technical team, you will work both with external stakeholders and cross-functionally with field services teams, product teams, and engineering to solve some of our customers’ most complex mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) challenges across cloud, on-premises, and tactical deployments. You will act as a subject-matter expert and technical lead for Persistent Systems’ Cloud Relay™ solution, supporting real-world implementations that integrate enterprise networking technologies with highly secure, globally distributed tactical networks. This role will focus on supporting critical, rapid architecture design and deployment in both permissive and non-permissive/hazard zones.
Position Responsibilities
- Implement and support network solutions utilizing Wave Relay® and Cloud Relay™ technologies, to include industry standard protocols such as Ethernet, MACsec, IPsec, VPN, EIGRP, OSPF, PIM, and IGMP
- Support and facilitate the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and monitoring of network and communications equipment including, but not limited to, the Wave Relay® and Cloud Relay™ suite of products
- Motivate and coordinate field teams with hands on troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex networking systems
- Support responses to RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and other formal requests that drive new business opportunities
- Support the Business Development group to develop Network solutions to prospective customers’ technical requirements using Wave Relay® and Cloud Relay™, CoTS, or other cloud-based technologies
Job Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in network engineering
- Strong understanding of network concepts such as Spanning-Tree (802.1d/802.1w), EIGRP, OSPF, PIM, IGMPv2, IPsec, IKEv2, and MACsec
- Strong understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 networking
- Familiar with Cisco and Linux networking concepts
- Familiar with using tools for data gathering such as Wireshark, iPerf, TCPdump, etc.
- Must be available to travel at least 75% of the time
- Must have the ability to obtain a United States Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous deployment experience in hazard zones or non-permissive environments
- Strong understanding or experience with tactical / mobile communications systems such as SATCOM, Radio telecommunications, etc.
- 6+ years of experience in Network Engineering
- Strong understanding of the Linux networking stack and related software suites such as iproute2, FRRouting, StrongSwan, and nftables
- 3+ years of experience using one or more of: C/C++, Python, Shell Script, or similar programming languages
- Experience with MANET or Wave Relay® technologies
- DoD 8570 Certified IAT Level 2 / DoD 8140 411, 441, or 651
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), or similar certification or experience
- AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialty certification or similar certification or experience
The base pay for this role can vary from $117,000 to $146,000 based on individual qualifications. Eligibility for yearly discretionary bonus.
