About the role
We're hiring a Product Manager to own DIY, april's self-serve tax filing flow, inside our Growth squad. DIY is the scale engine of the business: it already serves 1M+ users filing federal and state returns and drives millions of dollars in ARR. It's the product our banking and fintech partners put in front of their entire customer base every tax season, with no preparer in the loop.
You'll own the filer's journey end to end, from the first tap inside a partner's app through the interview, document upload, review, payment, signature, and e-file, to IRS acceptance. Your job is to get more people to a filed, accepted return, faster, with less drop-off, and to turn DIY into a funnel that upgrades filers into assisted tiers when they need help.
You'll report to the VP of Product and work closely with our tax team and GTM teams, alongside engineering, design, and data.
Key responsibilities
- Own the DIY funnel. Drive start-to-interview-completion, ready-to-file, filed and accepted rates, and time-to-file. Find where filers stall or churn (identity verification, document upload, payment) and fix it.
- Live in the data. Define the metrics, build the dashboards with our data team, write your own queries, and run A/B tests on the flow. Every roadmap call should trace back to a number.
- Design for partners, not just filers. DIY is white-labeled and configurable per partner: fees, branding, auth level, refund routing, upgrade paths. You'll shape what partners can configure and how they track their filers.
- Build the upsell paths. Grow revenue per filer through upgrades into Pro Review and Pro, year-round Tax Advice, and other paid add-ons. Make each offer show up when a filer needs it, and grow attach rate without hurting completion.
- Shape what's next. Turn filer and partner insight into a clear roadmap, and lead new bets that expand what DIY can do.
- Run a seasonal business. Plan the roadmap around the tax calendar: build in the off-season, harden before January, and react fast during peak and the October extension deadline.
- Work across the company. Partner with engineering and design on delivery, with the tax team on coverage, compliance, and edge cases, and with the GTM teams on partner launches, feedback, and enablement.
Experience
- 4+ years as a Product Manager, owning a live product end to end
- Background in B2C, or in B2B products serving SMBs, where you shipped self-serve flows used at real volume
- Strong data orientation: you define KPIs, run experiments, and change course based on what the numbers show
- Experience shipping AI or LLM-powered product features
- A track record of moving a conversion or retention metric through onboarding, funnel, or flow optimization
- Comfort with complex, regulated domains where accuracy matters (fintech, payments, banking, insurance, or similar)
- Fluent English, written and spoken: you'll work daily with US-based partners and teammates
- Clear, concise communication and the ability to get engineering, design, ops, and GTM pulling in the same direction
- Experience with SaaS platforms
Bonus points
- You understand the US tax system. You know what a W-2, 1099, and Form 1040 are, how refunds and balances due work, and why e-file acceptance and rejection matter. Experience at a tax-prep company, or having filed US taxes yourself, counts.
- Experience with embedded or white-label products sold through partners (banking-as-a-service, embedded finance, payroll)
- Hands-on with identity verification / KYC, payments, or document capture (OCR) flows
- Hands-on SQL, so you can pull your own answers from the data
- Experience with a seasonal or deadline-driven product
- Fintech experience - Big +
