Position Summary
Dark Matter Technologies is seeking an experienced and collaborative Manager, Engineering to lead a team of software engineers responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and high-quality technology solutions supporting the company's mortgage and fintech platforms.
The Manager, Engineering is accountable for both people leadership and delivery execution. This role partners closely with Product Management, Architecture, Quality Assurance, DevOps, and other business stakeholders to ensure teams consistently deliver innovative solutions aligned with company objectives. The successful candidate will foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, continuous improvement, and employee growth. Dark Matter Engineering Managers are expected to be hands-on with the company source code, developing alongside their direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Develop solutions to satisfy the company’s software uses cases.
- Conduct performance evaluations, career development planning, and regular coaching conversations.
- Support workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, and talent retention activities.
- Build a high-performing engineering culture focused on ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Identify future technical and leadership talent within the organization.
Engineering Delivery
- Manage the execution and delivery of software initiatives, product enhancements, and strategic modernization efforts.
- Partner with Product Management to establish priorities, roadmaps, and delivery commitments.
- Ensure engineering teams adhere to established development standards, security requirements, and quality expectations.
- Monitor team capacity, sprint execution, delivery metrics, and operational health.
- Remove blockers and proactively address risks that may impact delivery timelines.
Technical Leadership
- Guide architectural and technical decision-making within the team.
- Promote engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and secure software development.
- Collaborate with architects and senior technical leaders on modernization and platform strategies.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Support incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
Organizational Leadership
- Partner with cross-functional leaders across Engineering, QA, Product, Operations, Security, and Client Services.
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives that improve productivity, quality, and customer outcomes.
- Communicate project status, risks, and team performance to senior leadership.
- Contribute to department planning, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of technical leadership, supervisory, team lead, or management experience.

- Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise software solutions.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and engineering best practices.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and organizational development skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft .NET technologies including C#, ASP.NET, and Web APIs.
- Experience with Angular
- Experience with AI-Assist development tools. (GitHub Copilot, LLMs, etc.)
- Experience developing cloud-native applications using Amazon Web Services.
- Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development.
- Understanding of security best practices for enterprise applications.
- Enterprise Integration Experience
- Experience within mortgage, real estate, fintech, or financial services industries.
- Experience leading distributed or hybrid engineering teams.
- Experience managing engineering delivery metrics and operational performance indicators.
