Sherpa 6 is seeking a Network Engineer to provide hands-on network engineering support across the company’s active projects. This role works under the guidance of Principal and Senior Network Engineers and is responsible for assisting with the deployment, operations day-to-day maintenance, and troubleshooting of tactical networks while senior staff are engaged on new design and architecture efforts for other projects.

The Junior Network Engineer executes and sustains network designs and configurations already developed by senior staff, provides routine operational support, and serves as the first point of contact for day-to-day project network needs and escalating design-level or complex issues to Principal or Senior Engineers as needed. This is a development role intended to help build a foundation working with SD-WAN, military network equipment and tactical design concepts with a defined path toward greater design responsibility as skills and experience grow.

Willingness to continue development of skills and knowledge through various company sponsored training and certification programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide direct network engineering support across multiple projects.

· Create network diagrams, data-flow diagrams, IP address plans, port and protocol matrices, interface-control documents.

· Assist translating network diagrams and requirements into a working solution.

· Configure and troubleshoot routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, SATCOM, cellular, terrestrial WAN, wireless, and tactical-radio interfaces.

· Assist the integration of technologies from multiple vendors into a seamless network.

· Receive hands-on experience deploying and supporting tactical networks during field demonstrations, exercises, operational assessments, new-equipment fielding, and other events for the customer.

· Troubleshoot basic networking issues in the lab and in the field during exercises.

· Troubleshoot connectivity, DNS, authentication, and performance issues using packet captures, system logs, and standard diagnostic tools.

· Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day project network issues, escalating design-level or complex problems to Principal or Senior Engineers

· Support multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing tasks based on business and project needs.

Requirements

· Two or more years of experience in network engineering, cybersecurity engineering, information assurance, or a related technical field.

· Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, network engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.

· Experience with SDWAN

· Ability to work independently on routine, previously designed tasks, managing own workload while senior staff are engaged on other projects.

· Configuration experience with TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, wireless networking, and enterprise network services.

· Experience integrating systems.

· Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (approximately up to 25 percent)

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn from senior engineering staff

· Ability to obtain a security clearance if required by an assigned project.

Preferred Experience:

· CompTia Network+ or Security+

· CCNA or equivalent vendor certification

· Basic knowledge of Linux operating system

· Basic scripting or automation exposure (Python, Bash, or similar)

· Familiarity with packet capture and log review tools (i.e. Wireshark)

· Familiarity with Zero Trust architectures and principles.

· Military or government civilian experience involving tactical communications, cybersecurity, network operations.

The proposed salary range is reflective across all Sherpa 6 locations, years of experience, and skill levels. Salary negotiations will be based on a host of factors including but not limited to your geographic location, prior experience, relevant skills, education, and certifications.
