Full description

We are Generac, a leading energy technology company committed to powering a smarter world.

Over the 60 plus years of Generac’s history, we’ve been dedicated to energy innovation. From creating the home standby generator market category, to our current evolution into an energy technology solutions company, we continue to push new boundaries.

The Manager, Engineering leads an on-site engineering team, supporting the Home Interconnect and Controls department's residential backup-power product and solution delivery teams.  This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring strong product development experience — including the depth to lead firmware and hardware development, coupled with proven people-leadership skills. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution and quality of the team's firmware, electrical, and mechanical development work, collaborating closely with U.S. engineering leadership and functional counterparts. As the on-site leader, the Manager provides continuity and direction for the team across time zones.  The Manager is also responsible for establishing and continuously improving the team's development methodology and engineering standards to ensure high-quality firmware and hardware, while fostering innovation and creativity within the engineering team.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for the firmware team's day-to-day development work, including setting up and maintaining build environments, participating in code reviews, and approving pull requests. For the electrical, PCB design, and mechanical work, manage day-to-day resource scheduling and coordination, with deeper technical guidance provided by U.S. counterparts.
  • Establish and continuously improve development processes, coding standards, and toolchains that enable repeatable, high-quality delivery across the team.
  • Onboard and train new team members, and keep the team productive and unblocked during hours when U.S.-based teams are unavailable.
  • Foster collaboration with other engineering teams, product management, and quality engineering to deliver and iterate on reliable solutions
  • Manage team resources and budget, ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards, and support department goals for on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Provide engineering leadership and design oversight functions for new product development projects including:  creating and maintaining development schedules, executing product development plans (schedule, product cost, resources to complete project, quality targets, product specification adherence, development and prove out of product validation test plans, etc.), interfacing with internal company personnel.
  • Coordinate day-to-day execution with the U.S.-based product delivery and solution delivery teams, ensuring engineering resources are applied effectively to meet department priorities and schedules.
  • Support the full product lifecycle — including new product development, sustaining engineering, component engineering, and field issue investigation — to deliver innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Designs and directs the work of the team. Selects, coaches and develops staff. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance-- recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Create and maintain an organizational culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement/commitment and a sense of urgency toward goals, and continuous improvement. Challenges team members to question the status quo and ensure that all aspects of the design, development and support process are optimal for the residential backup-power market.
  • Engage in and lead business planning processes, recruitment, retention, talent acquisition, development, and mentoring.
  • Develop engineering talent throughout the company, identifying training and growth plans for employees.
  • Establish the vision and standards to drive world-class engineering excellence within the team and partner with U.S. engineering leadership on planning and product development priorities.
