About You:

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Ruby Backend Developer to build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems.

Key Responsibilities:

You will part of a professional software engineering team helping to build and regularly ship software, some of the projects you may be working on will include;

  • Develop and maintain backend applications using Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Work with databases, background jobs, caching, and third-party integrations.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Troubleshoot performance and production issues.
  • Collaborate with frontend, QA, DevOps, and product teams.
  • Participate in system design and code reviews.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
  • Mandatory professional experience with other backend technologies, such as Node.js, Python, Java, or .NET.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and database optimisation.
  • Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar backend technologies.
  • Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Strong testing experience with RSpec, Minitest, or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of Git, software architecture, security, and performance optimisation.
