Assistant Project Manager (Development)

Salary up to £56,750 per year plus excellent benefits package and extensive career progression opportunities

Role

The position of Assistant Project Manager sits within SP Transmission’s Strategic Projects Development team. In this role you’ll be responsible for taking ownership of succinct work packages and interfacing with stakeholders to realise the schedule and Capex budget for one of the largest reinforcement projects within SP Transmission’s licence area.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Lead Project Manager you will be responsible for:

Owning project sub-tasks and managing contracts, financial forecasting, schedule, resource planning, quality and risk mitigation of these tasks.

Ensuring safety and environmental compliance of tasks.

Driving performance and efficiency by identifying and implementing innovation, value engineering, and best practices.

Supporting Senior Project Manager(s) in the team.

Building strong stakeholder relationships internally (engineering, PMO, environment, sustainability, land & planning, regulation, procurement and legal) and externally (local authorities, contractors, regulators and communities).

Promoting continuous improvement through lessons learned, project reviews, and sharing best practices across the wider portfolio.

What you’ll bring

Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).

Post graduate experience in the built environment and understanding of the development stage of projects (design and consenting) preferably for energy projects.

Understanding of project management methodologies and risk management.

Awareness of contract administration.

Foundation knowledge of the technical characteristics and workings of the Electricity Transmission System.

Understanding of infrastructure planning and consenting requirements including Section 37 / Section 36 / Town & Country Planning and EIA.

Financial acumen - forecasting, cost control, and capital efficiency planning.

Awareness of health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly CDM regulations.

Skills and attributes to manage stakeholders.

Excellent communication and written skills.

Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders without direct line authority.

Strategic problem-solving skills - able to devise solutions for complex challenges and drive efficiency.

Excellent organisational skills.

Commitment to quality and continuous improvement, ensuring best practice adoption across the portfolio.

Driving license (travel across SPEN locations required).

Minimum Criteria

  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Experience of complex programme of contracts, multiple work programmes and commercial contracts.
