Data Analyst

Remote

 

The Data Analyst will help uncover and enable insights and analytical reporting for the Business Analytics team at Jostens.

The goal of the role is to help foster an analytics culture through self service analytics model as well as enterprise dashboarding.

Insights Responsibilities include the ongoing delivery of reporting and insights, leveraging business knowledge in the creation of data sets across different databases, defining user acceptance testing, and maintain documentation.

Additionally, work collaboratively with various stakeholders, IT, Data Warehouse & Data Science teams, and outside partners.  

 

Responsibilities:

 

Be the subject matter expert in reporting and analytics within the Business Analytics team.

  • Act as primary subject matter export on reporting tools and enterprise standards 
  • Master data visualization tools, methodologies, and best practices to create and maintain impactful reports and dashboards 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to help collect requirements, drive key questions, and continue to iterate as business evolves

Perform moderately complex curation of data across several databases and legacy source systems.

  • Clean, standardize, and enrich data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability in alignment with business and data governance standards.
  • Collaborate with data owners and IT teams to understand data lineage and ensure the integrity and reliability of curated datasets.
  • Utilize tools such as SQL, Excel, and data integration platforms to consolidate and transform data for reporting, analytics, and operational use.

Research root cause of moderately complex curation and data quality issues.

  • Investigate anomalies, inconsistencies, and gaps in curated datasets by analyzing source data, transformation logic, and system workflows
  • Trace data issues across upstream and downstream systems, including legacy platforms, to determine origin and potential impact.
  • Document findings clearly, including root cause analysis, affected data elements, and recommended remediation steps.

Maintains documentation of data definitions, calculations, usage, and restrictions.

  • Create and update comprehensive data dictionaries that define data elements, their meanings, formats, permissible values, and business relevance

Fulfill Ad Hoc data and reporting requests that are typically of moderate complexity.

  • Gather requirements and clarify objectives from stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the data or reporting need.
  • Review results to ensure business needs are addressed and functional analytics are provided.
  • Assists with tool exploration and discovery.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the organization to understand their business/function and collaborate in the design of solutions for data visibility and analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Information Technology, and/or related business quantitative studies.
  • 2-3 years of experience within a mid/large, complex matrixed organization.
  • Possess working knowledge and hold experience in relational databases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Business Objects, SQL, SAS and/or mainframe systems and Microsoft Office; specifically, Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated application of statistical analysis in creating recommendations and identifying solutions
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining  Analytical Dashboards and Data Workflows
  • Very Strong Excel skills especially working with pivot tables (Power Pivot a plus), statistical, and financial analysis
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple work requests and projects.
  • Ability to take on diverse ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests with varying complexity and scope
  • Able to effectively present analytic products to business users.
  • Experience with Incorta software. 
  • Proficient level analysis skills including the ability to identify patterns, potential issues, and translation of the same into functional requirements or plans
  • Takes a measured and thoughtful approach to difficult situations.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and turn around analysis and provide answers quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
