Position Summary
Lockport Steel is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee multiple structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects throughout the Chicagoland area and Midwest. The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of Lockport Steel's contracted scope of work, from project award through shop drawings, submittals, fabrication, field installation, and project closeout.
This position serves as the primary point of contact for General Contractors, Construction Managers, and customers, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements. As Lockport Steel continues to expand its customer base, fabrication capabilities, and project portfolio, this role offers significant opportunities for professional growth, increased responsibility, and long-term career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow established Lockport Steel project management policies and procedures.
- Review project documents and develop a comprehensive understanding of project scope, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements.
- Manage multiple structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects simultaneously from award through closeout.
- Develop project schedules, sequencing plans, and installation coordination strategies.
- Coordinate shop drawings, submittals, approvals, fabrication schedules, and field installation activities.
- Prepare, submit, and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Identify scope changes, prepare change order pricing, submit change orders, and track approvals.
- Prepare and manage monthly pay applications utilizing AIA G702 and G703 forms.
- Coordinate activities with customers, architects, engineers, fabricators, erectors, and field personnel.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and overall project performance.
- Resolve day-to-day project issues while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Lead project closeout activities, including punch lists, final documentation, and customer acceptance.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of project management experience in construction, steel fabrication, or a related industry.
- Strong interest in working for a structural steel fabricator and subcontractor.
- Strong understanding of construction project management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and steel shop drawings.
- Knowledge of AIA billing procedures, including G702 and G703 forms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and follow through without daily supervision.
Preferred
- 5+ years of experience in the Chicagoland construction industry.
- 5+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, steel erection, or a related construction field.
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software.
- Experience managing structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects.
