Network Engineer Overview:

  • The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the organization's network infrastructure, including Cisco Meraki firewalls, Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco wireless access points, Cisco switches, VPNs, and WAN/LAN connectivity.
  • This position ensures the security, availability, and performance of network systems through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and capacity planning.
  • The Network Engineer develops and enforces network and security standards, supports disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives, manages network-related projects, and provides technical recommendations to the IT Director to support organizational goals and future growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and support the Organization’s local area network, wide area network, and Internet system.
  • Configures and implements network hardware, software and network communication gateways to other computing environments.
  • Maintain Security Policies which detail and document actual mechanisms and controls to include: Risk Analysis: and management, documentation management and controls, information access controls and sanctions for failure to comply.
  • Maintain Information Security: Staff only have access to the sensitive information for which they have appropriate authority and clearance.
  • Maintain Technical Security: Set the access and authorization controls for everyday operations as well as emergency procedures for data.
  • Maintain Transmission Security: Set the standards for access controls, audit trails, event reporting, encryption, and integrity controls.
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Manage and oversee effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Provides technical assistance for network operations.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery and emergency operation procedures and risk tolerances for the network.
  • Responsible for demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural/socioeconomic differences in the organization/program service population.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting enterprise network environments; or ten (10) years of directly related network engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco networking technologies, including Cisco switches, Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco Meraki security appliances, and Cisco wireless access points.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, routing, switching, and network security concepts.
  • Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and optimize network performance and connectivity.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure services preferred.
  • Experience with network monitoring, documentation, and change management practices.
  • Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or Meraki certifications) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and participate in on-call support.
  • Knowledge around VoIP phone systems is a plus.
