By joining the team as Tax Advisory Analyst, you will research, interpret and apply tax legislation. You will deliver high-quality tax compliance, technical analysis and advisory support for MCB Ltd and the wider MCB Group. You will also work alongside a supportive team helping MCB and the Group get tax right, while developing your own expertise with the guidance and development to support you.

In this role you will:

  • Research and interpret tax legislation, case law, rulings, practice statements and Double Taxation Agreements, and prepare draft technical notes and advice for review;
  • Act as a point of contact for tax queries from different stakeholders, giving timely and practical tax input that supports business decisions;
  • Own the preparation of tax computations and returns for assigned MCB Ltd and Group entities, making sure they are accurate and filed and paid on time;
  • Review contracts, agreements and new products to identify tax implications and risks, and escalate them where needed;
  • Help with queries, tax audits and investigations from the Mauritius Revenue Authority and foreign tax authorities, including preparing audit files, draft responses and supporting documents for objections and appeals;
  • Monitor local and international tax developments, including tax legislations, Budget measures, Finance Bills and OECD initiatives, and prepare summaries and first-cut impact assessments;
  • Help maintain tax policies, internal guidelines, procedures and controls so that tax governance is applied consistently across the Group in order to minimise financial loss and protect the good name and reputation of the MCB Group;
  • Live and display the MCB brand and values in all daily activities in order to uphold and further strengthen the MCB brand internally and externally.

We are looking for candidates who have:

EITHER

  • A Degree in Law, Finance, Accounting or a related field;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a tax-related environment.

OR

  • A Diploma in Law, Finance, Accounting or a related field;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a tax-related environment.

AND

  • Studying towards a professional tax qualification (e.g. ADIT, CTA, or equivalent) would be a strong advantage;
  • Experience in the banking or financial services sector would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of, or exposure to, tax technology (e.g. tax automation or data analytics) would be an advantage;
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legislation and apply it to practical business situations;
  • Sound working knowledge of tax laws and an understanding of international tax frameworks;
  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-tax audiences;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

A combination of both qualifications and experience will also be considered.
