About the role
Lead and grow engineering teams delivering OS frameworks, system services, runtime environments, and platform APIs, while setting technical strategy and ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability. Partner across hardware, kernel, product, and application teams; develop talent; adopt AI-assisted workflows; and manage execution risks, code quality, and platform stability.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires at least 8 years of software engineering experience in systems or platform domains and at least 4 years of engineering management experience, including leadership of other engineering leaders. Candidates should have experience setting technical roadmaps for foundational software and collaborating across hardware, kernel, and application organizations; consumer-device and AI-related experience are preferred.
Benefits
Full description
Meta is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead teams building the operating system frameworks that power Meta's platforms and devices. In this role, you will drive the architecture and delivery of foundational OS-level software — including system services, runtime environments, inter-process communication, and platform APIs — that enable product teams across Meta to build performant, reliable experiences on mobile, wearable, and extended reality devices. You will partner closely with hardware, kernel, and product engineering teams to shape the technical direction of platform frameworks that scale across Meta's growing device ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow multiple teams of engineers and technical leaders delivering OS frameworks, system services, and platform APIs across Meta's device and software ecosystem
- Drive the technical strategy and roadmap for OS-level frameworks including runtime environments, inter-process communication, and platform abstraction layers
- Actively engage with the technical direction of your teams, using AI tools to evaluate architectural decisions, assess code quality, and contribute directly to platform design
- Partner with hardware, kernel, product, and application engineering teams to define platform contracts and ensure framework reliability, performance, and scalability
- Proactively identify and resolve execution risks across teams, including architectural gaps, dependency bottlenecks, and engineering quality issues
- Recruit, develop, and retain engineering leaders and individual contributors, fostering a culture of technical craft, AI-native workflows, and continuous improvement
- Champion adoption of AI-assisted development practices across teams to expand delivery capacity and improve engineering efficiency
- Establish and maintain a high-quality, healthy codebase through investment in testing infrastructure, performance benchmarking, and platform stability practices
- Communicate technical strategy and organizational progress clearly to cross-functional partners and leadership, including implications of platform decisions on dependent product teams
- Model cross-functional ownership by ensuring engineers engage substantively with product, design, and data partners when defining platform capabilities and APIs
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience in systems software, OS frameworks, platform engineering, or related low-level software domains
- 4+ years of engineering management experience leading teams that deliver OS-level or platform software, including experience managing other engineering leaders
- Experience driving technical strategy and roadmap for foundational software systems such as runtime environments, system services, or platform APIs
- Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining engineers and technical leaders in a systems or platform engineering domain
- Experience collaborating across hardware, kernel, and application engineering organizations to define and deliver platform-level software
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
- Track record of improving platform performance, reliability, or developer experience through systematic investment in engineering infrastructure and tooling
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to evaluate technical direction, improve engineering workflows, or expand team delivery capacity
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
- Experience leading platform or OS framework engineering for consumer devices such as mobile, wearable, or extended reality hardware
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
- Experience managing teams through significant platform transitions, such as new hardware bring-up, OS version migrations, or API redesigns
