We are looking for a talented Technical Service Writer to join our Master Rebuild Centre team in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Diagnosing and resolving highly complex engine issues through advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis, helping maximize equipment reliability and customer uptime.
  • Leading by example in the workshop by maintaining high standards of productivity, quality, safety, and professionalism while working independently on complex technical challenges.
  • Coaching and developing less experienced technicians through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and hands-on support, strengthening the team's overall capability and future talent pipeline.
  • Performing detailed engine inspections and failure analysis to identify issues early raise SR’s and reduce report downtime.
  • Delivering exceptional customer support by proactively communicating effectively with stakeholders and ensuring a positive customer experience throughout the analysis process.
  • Managing warranty or premature failure teardowns, confirming warranty coverage, and ensuring teardowns are executed according to Cummins Standards.
  • Ensuring quality and compliance standards are met by completing accurate condition and failure reports and adhering to all HSE protocol.
  • Driving continuous improvement contributing to Toolbox Talks and helping the team achieve business objectives.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills to perform engine and component failure analysis, lead teardowns, interpret findings, and compile detailed failure and condition reports.
  • Effective collaboration and communication abilities to work closely with sites, customers, engineering suppliers, the Technical Support Team, and Service Advisors to gather data, resolve issues, and support investigations.
  • A proactive and adaptable mindset with strong problem-solving skills, nimble learning capabilities, and the ability to work independently under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
  • Mechanical expertise and technology proficiency with knowledge of Cummins products, QSOL, SR systems, and industry best practices, while consistently promoting safety excellence and championing a Zero Harm safety culture.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic/Fitter with a minimum of N6
  • Matric Certificate with Grade C or better in Mathematics, English and Science
  • At least 5 years' experience working on Heavy Duty or High Horsepower Cummins Diesel Engines
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications: Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred).
  • Certificate of secondary education or Vocational Diploma equivalent/ Trade Certificate or equivalent experience (Preferred).
  • Locally valid driving permit (Preferred).
  • Experience: Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products.
  • Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians.
  • Experience in dual trade or multiple market segments (preferred).
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
