Department: Technical Documentation Team for Video Security and Access Control Do you love taking on tough challenges? We need a dedicated technical writer, who is all about the customer. Motorola Solutions is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and enthusiastic technical writer. As the primary writer owning one or more documentation portfolios end-to-end, you will drive the entire content lifecycle from initial requirements gathering and scoping, to architecting the information, executing deliverables, publishing, and long-term maintenance. We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to develop, maintain, and enhance user-facing documentation across multiple delivery platforms, including web-based portals, multimedia, and embedded assistance technologies. In this role, you will lead documentation efforts for new products, major releases, and product redesigns, ensuring our content maximizes usability and customer satisfaction.
Beyond content creation, you will serve as a key contributor to team excellence by mentoring junior writers, streamlining documentation workflows, and advocating for user-centric design across cross-functional teams, including Development, UX, and Technical Support.
Key Responsibilities
- Documentation Excellence: Plan, write, and edit high-impact documentation for diverse product ecosystems, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across all delivery formats.
- Product Documentation Ownership: Serve as the primary lead for an assigned brand or product line, taking full accountability for the end-to-end documentation lifecycle. Drive doc strategy and manage release deliverables to ensure comprehensive content coverage across all product milestones.
- Customer Advocacy: Prioritize the customer experience by approaching technical content with a user-first, problem-solving mindset.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Act as a subject matter expert, advising Technical Writer I and II levels, maintaining rigorous quality standards, and assisting with workload distribution.
- Process Optimization: Continuously audit team processes and deliverables. Proactively develop, communicate, and implement initiatives to enhance efficiency and usability both within the team and across the broader organization.
- Content Triage & Support: Own the documentation bug/support pipeline: triage reports, clarify requirements, ensure accurate assignments, and escalate critical issues to the Manager or appropriate product teams.
- Strategic Collaboration: Build consensus across organizational levels to align documentation strategies with business objectives. Resolve complex job- or customer-related issues creatively and independently.
- Technical Proficiency: Maintain advanced knowledge of authoring tools and workflows, proactively applying this expertise to improve team deliverables.

Qualifications
- Authoring Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in Madcap Flare authoring and advanced documentation workflows.
- Publication Strategy: Proven experience with diverse publication types, including online content syndication and HTML-first documentation (prioritizing the "every page is page one" approach).
- Collaboration: Skilled at building consensus and working effectively across separate, cross-functional teams.
- AI Integration: Ability to leverage AI-powered tools to drive quality and operational efficiency.
- Tooling: Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for task and documentation management.
Preferred Skills (Competitive Advantages)
- Lifecycle Management: Experience navigating the complexities of creating and maintaining standardized manuals for hardware/software throughout the product lifecycle.
- Efficiency Mindset: A history of driving significant process improvements and operational efficiency.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in git-based source control and Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Adobe Illustrator.
- Technical Writing Background: Deep experience acting as a customer advocate and translating complex technical concepts into intuitive user guides.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience in technical writing or equivalent discipline experience OR 8+ years of technical writing experience.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
