This is a remote position.
CPI is seeking a Data Analyst II to join our growing team! We are a full-service consultancy and professional services firm specializing in large capital projects, including infrastructure, energy, and related industries. We are headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, but our team is fully remote.
Job Summary: The Data Analyst II plays a key role in supporting analytics, reporting, data workflows, automation, and AI-enabled application development. This role requires strong analytical thinking, hands-on experience with data tools, attention to detail, and the ability to translate business needs into clear reporting outputs, data-driven insights, and practical technical solutions. The ideal candidate is a curious, highly organized technical contributor who is comfortable working with SQL, Power BI, Python, documentation, and emerging AI tools while collaborating with senior analysts, technical leads, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day analytics operations, including data extraction, cleansing, validation, transformation, and report generation
- Create dashboards, reports, and data visualizations with guidance from senior analysts or technical leads
- Support the development of AI-enabled tools, prototypes, automations, and data applications by preparing data, documenting requirements, testing outputs, and assisting with implementation
- Understand business needs and translate them into clear reporting, analytics, automation, or application support tasks
- Communicate results, insights, assumptions, risks, and limitations clearly and concisely
- Ensure timely completion of assigned tasks, deliverables, documentation, and follow-ups
- Visualize data in an easily consumable way for business stakeholders using Power BI, advanced reporting tools, dashboards, and other data visualization methods
- Execute ETL processes to assess datasets, identify nulls or errors, clean and transform data, and load data to appropriate platforms or reporting tools
- Perform data analysis and compile clear technical reports, summaries, findings, and documentation
- Assist with Python scripts, automation workflows, data preparation processes, and reusable technical components as needed
- Support API-based, AI-assisted, or application-related workflows under the guidance of senior technical team members
- Document data flows, report logic, process steps, assumptions, validation checks, prompts, and technical decisions
- Collaborate effectively within and across teams, providing actionable insights and technical support to guide decisions
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous enhancement of analytics, reporting, automation, and AI-enabled delivery practices
- Support data integrity, security, quality, and documentation expectations throughout analytics and application development work
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience; master's degree a plus
- 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, analytics, information systems, automation, or a related technical field
- Ability to independently write and execute SQL queries across multiple tables
- Experience designing, building, or maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards, data models, or similar reporting solutions
- Proficiency with Power BI, SQL, and Python for data analysis, reporting, automation, and data preparation
- Demonstrated skill in data cleaning, validation, transformation, and quality review
- Interest in and practical familiarity with AI-enabled tools, automation, generative AI workflows, prompt-based tools, or AI-assisted application development
- Ability to work with structured and semi-structured data from sources such as databases, spreadsheets, files, APIs, or business systems
- Demonstrated focus on documentation, version control, automation, and repeatable processes
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information, data findings, limitations, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders
- Experience collaborating across teams with the ability to build trust, ask good questions, and follow through on assigned work
- Strong planning, documentation, organization, and process-tracking skills
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to take ownership of smaller-scope tasks or workstreams while seeking guidance appropriately
- Experience with APIs, Python-based automation, lightweight application development, or AI-enabled prototypes preferred
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms preferred
- Experience with front-end or user-interface technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, AngularJS, jQuery, or similar technologies preferred
- Experience with AI application concepts such as prompt workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, structured outputs, agents, or evaluation workflows preferred
- Energy utility domain knowledge preferred but not required
- Microsoft Certified Data Analyst Associate Certificate, AWS Cloud Practitioner Certificate, or similar certification preferred
Performance Metrics:
- Leads smaller-scope projects, tasks, or workstreams with appropriate guidance from senior analysts or technical leads
- Can explain insights, assumptions, risks, and technical findings to clients, stakeholders, or internal team members
- Produces clear documentation of data sources, report logic, process steps, validation checks, prompts, and technical decisions
- Demonstrates proactivity in identifying issues, asking clarifying questions, proposing solutions, and taking ownership of assigned work
- Delivers timely and accurate data analysis, reporting, automation, and application-support deliverables
- Creates dashboards, reports, visualizations, and technical outputs that are clear, accurate, useful, and easy for stakeholders to understand
- Supports AI-enabled tools, prototypes, and workflows through careful data preparation, testing, documentation, and implementation support
- Adheres to data integrity, security, validation, documentation, automation, and database best practices
- Collaborates effectively with senior analysts, technical leads, developers, stakeholders, and cross-functional team members
- Demonstrates growth toward broader ownership of analytics, reporting, automation, and AI-enabled solution delivery
