Full description

Responsibly 🌍🌱

Responsibly is a VC-backed sustainability tech start-up with a vision of making every purchase in the world responsible. We're founded by serial entrepreneurs with previous successes like Ofload, Dixa and Neurons, funded by some of Europe's top VCs and angels, and now cash-flow positive with an incredibly exciting roadmap ahead.

Let's change the world together 🎯

More than 40% of global emissions, and really any ESG issue, are directly or indirectly impacted by procurement. Companies wield enormous purchasing power when they select and manage suppliers, so if we can put sustainability on every supplier scorecard out there, we really can change the world.

But it's hard: a company can have anywhere from 100 to 100,000 suppliers, analyzing each one's sustainability efforts is near-impossible, and most ESG ratings suck. Responsibly's AI-powered due diligence engine automates the due diligence on every supplier across every ESG data point, from risk and violations to positive actions, and turns it into insights that help companies build more sustainable supply chains.

The engineering problem 🧩

Most of what we do comes down to one hard thing: turning the world's messy, unstructured supplier data into something you can score.

A supplier's ESG reality is scattered across PDF sustainability reports, half-broken corporate websites, regulatory filings, news, and a dozen ERP exports that all name the same company differently. We scrape it, extract it, resolve the entities, normalise it, and put a number on it, at a scale where a single customer can have 100,000 suppliers.

That means real problems, not ticket-shaped ones. Extraction pipelines where the LLM is confidently wrong 5% of the time and you have to decide what to do about it. Entity resolution where "Nordic Steel A/S" and "NORDIC STEEL" and "Nordisk Stål" may or may not be the same company. Schema design for data that arrives in a different shape every time. If that sounds fun rather than exhausting, we should talk.

Build next-gen products with next-gen technologies 🌟

You'll work on a Next.js app leveraging the latest in server actions, server components and serverless architecture, building dynamic, high-performance applications with TypeScript, PostgreSQL and AI integrations.

We don't just leverage AI in our product; we're building a next-generation engineering team where you're not only encouraged but expected to adopt the latest technologies in how you work. Our engineers run agentic coding tools daily, and we'd rather talk about where they fall down than whether to use them.

How we work 🛠️

  • The engineering team is small and you're reporting directly to Christian, our CTO. There is no layer between you and the decisions.
  • Specs are limited. You'll get a problem, what the output should look like, sometimes vaguely, and you're expected to own it from there to release; including where to ask for more information. If you'd rather have the approach agreed before you start, you will find this uncomfortable.
  • You choose how to solve it, and you ship it. Idea to production is days, not quarters. We run weekly sprints - considering going bi-weekly - most often with releases as the goal for the sprint. You own what you write across its whole lifecycle, including when it breaks.
  • There is little process versus a bigger organization, and what we're planning to adopt is mainly for the ai agents to support you.
  • You will sometimes be wrong, ship it, and fix it. That's okay.
  • We're in the office at Islands Brygge 3-5 days a week, on the water. We prefer meeting face-to-face to stay in sync and move fast, with some support for remote working.

What you'll be doing 🙌

  • Take operational ownership of the code you write across the entire software development lifecycle
  • Work on production code, from customer-facing features to bug fixing
  • Design new features and see them through to completion
  • Help build and evolve our services and infrastructure to stay ahead of our growth curve
  • Turn conceptual ideas into production-ready, scalable features
  • Be a big part of finding the best solutions to our daily challenges

Where you lack a line on this list but can convince us you'll close the gap fast, apply anyway. We mean that literally: one of the best engineers we've had joined us as a junior and was senior within two and a half years.

Three things we do need:

  • Strong TypeScript, and the judgement that comes from having shipped and maintained real production code in it
  • Relational database thinking. PostgreSQL or equivalent, and opinions about how to design a schema that survives contact with messy data
  • AI in your actual daily workflow, not as something you're open to. We'll ask which tools, what you last used one for, and where they let you down

Nice to have, genuinely not required:

  • Next.js specifically (server actions, server components, API routes). If you know modern React you'll be fine within a fortnight
  • Shipping LLM features to production: RAG, extraction, agents, evals
  • Web scraping at awkward scale
  • Serverless and AWS, Lambda, and comfort with cloud infrastructure generally
  • ESG, procurement or supply-chain domain knowledge

Practical stuff 📋

  • Salary: band between 50-60k / month for a senior engineer
  • ESOP: every full-time Responsibly'er owns a piece of the company. We'll show you the actual numbers, strike price, vesting, and what your slice could be worth at a few exit scenarios, before you have to decide anything.
  • Location: Copenhagen. You'll need to be here or firmly planning to move, and to have the right to work in Denmark. English is our working language.
  • Office: Islands Brygge, right on the water. Great lunch, great coffee, obligatory ping-pong table. Roughly three days a week together, flexible on which and on hours.

Also 🤩

  • Enthusiastic, highly talented teammates from all backgrounds, always ready to share knowledge, support, and a beer
  • Strong personal and professional development in a high-growth environment
  • Annual company events and Friday bars
  • Real impact. Life is about more than work
