Fieldwork Data Analyst

Our Echelon Insights Fieldwork Data Analyst will work directly with our partners, research team, and data team to collect data, program and test surveys, analyze technical survey needs, and collaborate with survey vendors in support of Echelon Insights. Your work will focus on ensuring that the data collection process is efficient and appropriate, surveys are accurately priced and executed with quality.

The work environment is fast-paced and growth-oriented, with all team members taking ownership for client success. Echelon Insights is headquartered in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and offers competitive benefits, including health, dental, vision, and a SIMPLE IRA option. Echelon Insights is a hybrid work environment with all employees required to work on-site 3 days per week and remote 2 days per week.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Be the “last line of defense” for survey testing and ensure that programming is good-to-go before launch
  • Pull phone records for fielding vendors through SQL, ensuring a demographically balanced sample
  • Assist with calculating and implementing fielding quotas for a variety of survey audiences
  • Manage quotas, handle CPI adjustments, and monitor overall progress, ensuring that fielding is completed in advance of client deadlines
  • Execute data quality checks in R with a strong understanding of survey dataset nuances, identifying and troubleshooting anomalies in collaboration with the data team

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience at an agency, survey research firm, or at an organization where your primary job responsibility was in data analysis
  • You studied statistics or have conducted original research using quantitative and qualitative techniques.
  • A strong interest in the news, politics, and public policy, with the ability to quickly get up to speed on new topics and issues
  • Data-driven and a strong desire to work with numbers
  • Strong aptitude for data manipulation using R and MySQL, with experience in Python, Excel (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.), and Tableau a plus
  • Conversant in the field with the ability to proactively suggest different data collection strategies (third party subscription tools, scraping, APIs, etc.)
  • Fast learner; capable of quickly picking up new things (whether that’s online panel platforms, survey platforms, or technical skills)
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • High in responsibility and diligence — you will have ownership of shepherding the data collection process through to completion
  • Able to communicate clearly, promptly, and proactively to internal team members and external vendors
  • Background in survey research strongly preferred; prior experience in fieldwork management a plus
  • Knowledge of different survey weighting approaches and when they’re appropriate a plus. 

Salary: $65,000- 75,000
