Role purpose

The Senior Engineering Manager for API Platforms leads the engineering organization responsible for the Americas API ecosystem. The role combines deep technical leadership with full people accountability. You will define engineering direction, guide architecture and standards, grow high-performing teams, and ensure APIs are secure, reusable, observable and reliable from design through retirement. Working closely with product, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, data, operations and business leaders, you will turn an API-first strategy into measurable customer and commercial outcomes.

Main activities

  • Own the technical strategy and multi-year engineering roadmap for API platforms, gateways, service connectivity, developer tooling and API lifecycle management across the Americas.
  • Lead architecture decisions for REST and event-driven interfaces, microservices, identity and access, traffic management, versioning, resiliency, observability and cloud-native deployment patterns.
  • Establish and govern API standards covering design, security, data classification, documentation, testing, release, consumption, deprecation and retirement.
  • Create reusable platform capabilities and self-service workflows that allow product teams to publish and consume APIs safely and quickly.
  • Remain close to the technology by leading design reviews, evaluating critical implementation choices, reviewing production health and coaching engineers through complex incidents and trade-offs.
  • Partner with product and business leaders to prioritize platform investments, define service-level objectives, quantify value and manage delivery across competing demands.
  • Own engineering quality and operational readiness, including automated testing, CI/CD controls, capacity, disaster recovery, incident management, problem management and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, privacy, architecture, records, third-party and regulatory requirements; close control gaps with durable engineering solutions.
  • Manage strategic vendors and platform partners, including technical evaluation, delivery performance, risk and cost effectiveness.
  • Use engineering metrics and customer feedback to improve adoption, reliability, productivity and total cost of ownership.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in software engineering, including substantial experience building and operating enterprise API or distributed platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple engineering teams and managers in a large, global or matrixed organization.
  • Deep knowledge of API design and management, microservices, cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD, observability, security and site reliability practices.
  • Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, secrets and certificate management, threat modelling, rate limiting and zero-trust principles.
  • Track record of modernizing complex platforms while maintaining production stability and meeting control obligations.
  • Ability to connect technical investment to customer, commercial, risk and productivity outcomes and communicate effectively with executive stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
