Project Manager

Position Summary

The Project Manager is accountable for the successful execution of EDLON's largest and most strategic customer opportunities from project authorization through final delivery. The position coordinates and leads cross-functional activities across Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered:

  • On Time
  • On Budget
  • To Specification
  • At Target Margin
  • With High Customer Satisfaction

This role does not replace functional management responsibilities. Instead, it provides overall project leadership, alignment, accountability, risk management, and communication across all functions involved in project execution. The Major Projects Manager serves as the single point of accountability for project results and the primary escalation point for project-related issues.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Project Leadership and Ownership

  • Assume overall responsibility for assigned strategic customer projects.
  • Establish project objectives, scope, milestones, budgets, risks, and success criteria.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules from quote acceptance through customer acceptance, based on functional capabilities and requirements.
  • Drive accountability for commitments made by each functional area.
  • Escalate issues when required to maintain project commitments.

2. Commercial Coordination

Partner with Sales and Engineering to:

  • Define/confirm customer requirements and deliverables.
  • Evaluate commercial and execution risks.
  • Validate project assumptions used in quotes.
  • Manage customer expectations (through sales function) throughout execution.
  • Monitor sales and margin performance against targets.

3. Engineering Coordination

Work with Engineering to:

  • Assess engineering capacity and capabilities to deliver on specification and on schedule.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time.
  • Facilitate design reviews with all necessary parties.
  • Coordinate technical decision-making.
  • Drive closure of open engineering issues.
  • Monitor technical risks and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure design changes are evaluated for schedule and cost impacts.

4. Manufacturing Coordination

Work with Operations to:

  • Align production schedules and capabilities with project milestones.
  • Monitor manufacturing progress versus plan.
  • Facilitate prioritization decisions when resources conflict and resolve bottlenecks impacting timelines.
  • Coordinate recovery plans when schedules slip.

5. Risk Management

  • Identify project risks early.
  • Maintain project risk registers, mitigation steps and owners.
  • Quantify schedule, cost, and technical risks in all functions.
  • Lead mitigation planning and implementation.
  • Escalate significant risks to leadership.

6. Financial Performance

  • Monitor project budgets and profitability.
  • Track actual versus estimated costs.
  • Identify margin erosion risks.
  • Manage scope changes and customer change orders with Engineering and Operations.
  • Support post-project financial review.

7. Governance and Reporting

  • Conduct regular project review meetings.
  • Maintain and communicate project dashboards/status.
  • Report project health to leadership.
  • Communicate schedule, cost, quality, and risk status.
  • Ensure project documentation remains current.

Ideal Background

Education

  • Engineering degree preferred
  • Business degree acceptable with strong technical background and experience managing projects at a similar company
  • MBA preferred

Experience

  • 8-15 years in engineered-to-order manufacturing
  • Project leadership of large industrial products
  • Manufacturing and Engineering experience
  • Financial acumen
  • Customer-facing experience preferred but not required
