Position Summary

We’re looking for an experienced and highly motivated senior software engineer to join our team and help shape the future of cloud communication services across Africa. The engineer should have a track record of building scalable applications on a Javascript stack and have excellent communication skills . If you think you have what it takes, we’d like to meet you!

Responsibilities.

• Work closely withProduct Managers and other engineers to implement versatile solutions to software projects within tight deadlines.

• Embrace emerging standards while promoting best practices in order to complete assigned software development tasks

• Proactively communicate issues with team members and update project management tools/trackers.

• Actively draft technical documentation for the projects with which you work, doing so with online collaborative tools.

• Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team.

• Collaborate with mobile operators and other vendor technical teams

Requirements

This position is for you if you:​

• You have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in IT. While preferred, it is not required—your code portfolio and projects are equally, if not more, important than academic qualifications.

• You have excellent communication skills and can prioritise, negotiate, and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

• You are a multitasker who can wear many hats in a fast-paced environment, with strong personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the Beem mission.

• You can translate software requirements into working products and collaborate effectively with colleagues who do not necessarily have technical backgrounds.

• You have in-depth experience using JavaScript (Node.js) for backend development, with React experience being a plus.

• You have experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases.

• You have experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.

• You have experience with testing frameworks such as Mocha and Jest.

• You have experience with frameworks and utilities including Express.js, Node.js, Yii, Redis, and RabbitMQ.

• You have strong integration experience with HTTP, XML, SOAP, JSON, and other APIs.

• You are very comfortable with Git version control and Git development workflows.

• You have a good understanding of Docker, Docker Compose, and Docker Hub.

• You have experience with Agile methodologies and JIRA for managing tasks and workflows.
