Full description

Think back—was there ever an elevator ride that made you go, “Whoa, this is nice”?

Maybe it was an elegant glass lift or a minimalist stainless-steel rocket.

It might have shaped your first impression or left a lasting memory of a building.

Chances are, the details made the difference; with an aesthetic interior and stylish, well-built buttons and fixtures. Immersive digital technology like visual displays may have turned a simple ride into a memorable experience as well. You may not have noticed these details then, but once you’ve worked with us, you’ll start noticing them everywhere you go.

Company Overview:

We have a vision – to have a MAD product in every elevator. Headquartered in Mississauga Canada, our 80,000 sq. foot facility focuses on the efficient production of industry-leading fixtures, high quality elevator car interiors, and cutting-edge digital products.

At MAD, we set you up to be the expert – providing the tools, support, and environment to help you thrive. From there, it’s all you – your drive and ideas lead the way. MAD has been ranked among Canada's top 500 fastest growing companies, one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, a Best Places to Work in Canada, and among Best Employers for Recent Graduates.

Our New R&D Project Manager:

As the R&D Project Manager, you will own the end-to-end delivery of MAD's R&D projects, serving as the single accountable point of coordination across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and test/validation). You will plan, schedule, and drive projects from initiation through completion, ensuring cross-discipline dependencies and issues are surfaced and resolved proactively rather than escalated ad hoc.

The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive project manager who thrives on driving cross-functional teams to deliver on time. They communicate clearly, hold teams accountable, anticipate risks before they become blockers, and bring structure to complex, multi-disciplinary product development.

What you will do in the role:

Project Ownership & Delivery

  • Serve as the single accountable owner for assigned R&D projects, from initiation through completion.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, scope, and milestones spanning all disciplines.
  • Drive day-to-day execution, ensuring each discipline delivers its portion on time and to requirements.
  • Track progress against plan, manage changes to scope and timeline, and keep projects moving to completion.

Cross-Discipline Coordination

  • Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and test/validation teams to manage dependencies and hand-offs.
  • Proactively identify, surface, and resolve cross-discipline issues before they stall a project, rather than leaving them to ad hoc escalation.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings, design reviews, and status updates to keep teams aligned.

Risk, Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Identify project risks early and drive mitigation plans.
  • Provide clear, consistent project status reporting to R&D leadership and stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communication across the organization, including sales, marketing, and management.
  • Maintain project documentation, using Jira as the system of record.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply and improve project management processes, templates, and best practices for R&D.
  • Support standardization and continuous improvement of the product development lifecycle.

Other

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Able to lift up to 15 lbs; may work in hot areas 5%, noise 0%.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety as well as active participation in 5S activities in the work area.

Measures of Success:

  • On-Time Delivery: ≥90% of R&D projects and committed milestones delivered on time.
  • Schedule Management: Project schedule variance maintained within approved targets and corrective actions implemented for all significant deviations.
  • Project Governance: 100% of active projects maintained with current schedules, owners, risks, action items, and status updates.
  • Risk Mitigation: 100% of critical project risks documented with mitigation plans; no avoidable project delays resulting from unmanaged risks.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Dependencies and issues across disciplines resolved proactively, minimizing project bottlenecks and escalation-driven delays.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: ≥95% on-time delivery of project status reports with accurate project health, milestone, and risk information.
  • Process Improvement Impact: Continuous improvement initiatives implemented to increase project delivery predictability and consistency across the R&D portfolio.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in a hardware and/or software product development or engineering environment
  • Proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects across cross-functional teams
  • Strong working knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, hybrid) and planning tools
  • Experience with issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira) and knowledge base (e.g., Confluence)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Strong risk identification, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with multi-disciplinary product development (mechanical, electrical, firmware, software) an asset
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification an asset
  • Clear Background Checks – Criminal (required)
