Project Overview: In this role, you will be a key contributor to a high-impact project focused on building scalable, production-grade backend applications infused with cutting-edge AI capabilities. You will join a collaborative, fast-paced team dedicated to designing robust microservices and integrating advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) into core architectures. The project involves end-to-end ownership, from architecting reliable REST APIs to leveraging AWS cloud infrastructure for seamless deployments. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will bridge the gap between traditional enterprise systems and modern AI integrations, ensuring high performance, reliability, and continuous innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Development: Design, build, and maintain robust backend applications and RESTful APIs utilizing Java and the Spring Boot framework.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Deploy, manage, and scale microservices on AWS, leveraging Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- AI Integration: Seamlessly embed production-grade LLMs (such as Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini) into backend workflows to power intelligent product features.
- Database Management: Architect and manage data layers using SQL and NoSQL technologies to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
- Production Ownership: Take full end-to-end responsibility for features, guiding them through deployment, active monitoring, troubleshooting, and production debugging.
- Agile Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software, ensuring best practices in architecture, testing, and system reliability.
Must-Have Skills
- Backend Mastery: Solid hands-on experience building production backend applications at a Software Engineer II level. (4–7 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE)
- Java & API Stack: Strong Java expertise utilizing the Spring Boot framework, paired with robust experience designing REST APIs.
- Database Technologies: Hands-on experience working with both SQL (Structured Query Language) and NoSQL database paradigms.
- Cloud & Containerization: Proven experience deploying and managing services on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes.
- AI Integration: Direct, practical experience integrating production-grade AI models/LLMs (e.g., Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini).
- Production Ownership: Proven track record taking features through deployment, active monitoring, and production debugging.
- Fluent English: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for daily technical collaboration and documentation.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Microservice Design Patterns: Experience implementing distributed transaction patterns like the Saga pattern and Transactional Outbox.
- Event-Driven Architecture: Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures utilizing message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Testing & Automation: Experience using Cucumber for behavior-driven development (BDD) and automated testing.
- Advanced AI: Experience building autonomous AI agents.
Time Zone & Collaboration: This role is 100% remote from LATAM and requires consistent overlap with teams in Central Time (CT). Flexibility is expected to accommodate key ceremonies, stand-ups, and collaborative sessions within standard Austin business hours.
