Role Summary
The Project Manager will lead the execution of industrial heating system Projects for Watlow customers. This role requires excellent Project Management skills, hands-on experience in heater design, installation, commissioning, and a foundational understanding of ASME codes and pressure vessel manufacturing processes. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring high-quality project execution, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Coordination
- Manage end-to-end execution of heating system projects including engineering review, installation, commissioning, testing, and handover.
- Coordinate with design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and sales teams to ensure project milestones are delivered on time and within budget
- Review and interpret engineering documents such as P&IDs, GA drawings, pressure vessel drawings, heater assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
- Develop project schedules, documentation as per ISO, and technical and Project reports.
Heater Design, Installation & Commissioning
- Work with engineering teams to review basic heater design requirements (flanged heaters, circulation heaters, tubular heaters, etc.).
- Perform on-site commissioning of electric heaters, thermal systems, temperature controllers, sensors, and associated control equipment.
- Troubleshoot issues related to heater performance, electrical systems, sensors, and control loops during commissioning.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) with customers.
ASME & Pressure Vessel Knowledge
- Apply basic understanding of ASME Section VIII, pressure vessel components, welding processes, and manufacturing practices during project review and execution.
- Review mechanical design inputs and ensure heater integration with pressure vessels meets applicable industry standards.
- Collaborate with fabrication vendors to ensure quality and compliance of heater assemblies and pressure-vessel-mounted components.
Customer Support & Communication
- Serve as the primary contact for customers during project execution and commissioning.
- Prepare and deliver progress updates, commissioning reports, and technical documentation.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Ensure project execution follows quality systems and safety standards recommended by Industry.
- Identify risks, non-conformities, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to heater design, commissioning, and project execution.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related disciplines.
- PMP Certification
Experience
- 4–5 years of experience in Project Management of industrial project execution, preferably thermal systems
- 4–5 years of experience in heater commissioning, industrial project execution, or thermal system installations.
- Exposure to pressure vessel manufacturing and integration of heaters into process equipment.
Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of ASME codes, pressure vessel design fundamentals, materials, nozzles, flanges, and fabrication practices.
- Understanding of industrial heater design (flanged heaters, immersion heaters, circulation heaters, etc.).
- Skilled in reading engineering drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical systems, temperature control loops, and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with SCR controllers, PLC interfaces, thermocouples, RTDs, and control panels.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and customer-handling ability.
- Good project planning, documentation, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently at field sites and effectively collaborate with internal teams.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, HVAC, or Industrial Process Heating industries.
- Exposure to safety standards (IEC, ATEX, IEEE).
- Willingness to travel to customer locations for project management activities.
