Position Summary
Works under general supervision to perform crafts required in the operation and maintenance of building equipment.
Pay Grade: 51H
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience as a maintenance engineer; AND
- High school diploma or possess a GED, AND
- Must have a first-class engineering license in both steam and refrigeration.
- An equivalent combination of related education, and/or experience.
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures operation and maintenance of heating, cooling, water, and electrical systems in assigned buildings work properly.
- Discusses building problems affecting County employee morals with other department heads.
- Plans and works from oral and/or blueprint instructions.
- Decides the most effective and efficient way to accomplish maintenance tasks.
- Inspects and tests equipment periodically to ensure its conformance with acceptable standards of safety.
- Estimates costs, time of repairs, and makes related recommendations as required, and determines maintenance priorities.
- Drives a vehicle to various county work locations.
- Performs other related responsibilities as required or directed.

- Knowledge of up-to-date maintenance and operating techniques required for building management.
- Ability to work well with co-workers.
- Ability to supervise and train subordinates.
- Ability to tactfully interact with the public.
- Ability to analyze malfunctions of equipment and skilled in performing remedial repairs.
- Ability to effectively schedule work.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be able to work outdoors or in inclement weather.
Special Requirements
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License or secure one upon date of employment.
