About the Role

Join an early-stage AI company building software to streamline insurance claims operations. As the first product designer, you will shape the user experience for claims professionals and leaders, working closely with product and engineering to turn complex workflows into clear, effective tools.

What You'll Do

  • Own the end-to-end experience across claims workspaces, dashboards, and other customer-facing product surfaces.
  • Research how customers use the platform through product analytics, heat maps, discovery calls, and direct observation, then use those insights to prioritize improvements.
  • Partner with product and engineering to translate customer problems into workflows and implementation-ready designs.
  • Design interactions for AI agents that make their actions, sources, reasoning, and uncertainty clear, while letting users review or intervene.
  • Guide the product from an early interface to an enterprise-ready experience as larger insurance organizations adopt it.
  • Establish design principles and a design system, prototype with AI tools, and evaluate whether design changes reduce user effort.

What We're Looking For

  • Five to eight years of product design experience, including early-stage startup experience as a founding designer or first design hire.
  • A UX-first, data-informed approach to simplifying complex workflows, supported by user research and behavioral analytics.
  • Experience designing dense, technical software used regularly by operational teams, with a portfolio showing end-to-end product design work.
  • Experience prototyping with AI coding tools such as Claude or Lovable.
  • Insurance, claims, healthcare, or other compliance-focused experience is a plus, as is designing AI and human-in-the-loop experiences.
  • Experience building design systems and working closely with product and engineering teams.
  • U.S. work authorization is required. Existing visa transfers may be supported, but new visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $170,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa transfers may be supported; new visa sponsorship is not available.

Location

On-site, five days per week in New York, New York.
