Full description

Dayforce is a global human capital management (HCM) company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, with operations across North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and the Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) region.

Our award-winning Cloud HCM platform offers a unified solution database and continuous calculation engine, driving efficiency, productivity and compliance for the global workforce.

Our brand promise - Makes Work Life Better™- Reflects our commitment to employees, customers, partners and communities globally.

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer with deep experience in designing, building, and optimizing scalable cloud infrastructure and managing CI/CD pipelines that support mission-critical enterprise applications.

The successful candidate will lead the automation of cloud environments, improve system reliability, and optimize deployment workflows across globally distributed systems.

This role combines hands-on cloud engineering with close collaboration across software engineering, data, and security teams to deliver secure, high-performance, resilient platforms for large enterprise customers.

If you are a generalist interested in many aspects of DevOps and cloud engineering, this is a great role for you.

What You’ll Do

Infrastructure Architecture & System Design

  • Implement scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to develop infrastructure specifications and architecture.
  • Design Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) environments using Terraform, CDKTF, AWS CDK, or equivalent tools to ensure consistency and repeatability.
  • Design and manage cloud networking, compute, storage, databases, and security services.
  • Optimize cloud architectures for cost efficiency, performance, scalability, and resilience.

Cloud Platforms, Automation & CI/CD

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated build, testing, and deployment workflows.
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and scaling using modern DevOps and cloud-native tooling.
  • Work with cloud services such as AWS EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudFront, Route 53, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch, or equivalent services on other cloud platforms.
  • Integrate distributed systems, data pipelines, microservices, and containerized applications into unified automated delivery processes.
  • Implement blue/green, canary, rolling, and zero-downtime deployment strategies for enterprise-scale environments.
  • Build reusable automation and infrastructure modules that enable engineering teams to deploy services efficiently and consistently.

Reliability, Monitoring & Operational Excellence

  • Design and maintain observability frameworks covering logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent platforms.
  • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for infrastructure, application, and deployment issues.
  • Implement resilience strategies including auto-scaling, auto-recovery, load balancing, redundancy, backups, disaster recovery, and multi-region or multi-availability-zone failover.
  • Establish operating procedures for monitoring, on-call rotations, incident response, capacity planning, and continuous system maintenance.
  • Support complex enterprise environments and distributed workforces with hundreds of thousands of users.
  • Define and improve service reliability metrics, operational standards, and automation to reduce manual intervention.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Implement DevSecOps best practices across cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.
  • Integrate security scanning, vulnerability assessment, secrets management, dependency scanning, and automated compliance checks into deployment pipelines.
  • Apply cloud security best practices including IAM, least-privilege access, encryption, network segmentation, secrets management, and secure data flows.
  • Ensure infrastructure and deployment processes align with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and other applicable regulatory and security standards.
  • Collaborate with security teams to continuously improve cloud security posture and governance.
  • Implement infrastructure policies and security controls through automation wherever possible.

Collaboration, Leadership & Mentorship

  • Lead and coordinate DevOps initiatives across engineering, product, data, and security teams.
  • Partner with software engineers to ensure infrastructure aligns with application architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance requirements.
  • Drive operational improvements, tooling modernization, cloud adoption, and an automation-first engineering culture.
  • Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and proactively recommend architectural and operational improvements.
  • Share DevOps and cloud engineering best practices across engineering teams.

Skills and Experience We Value

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 1–5 years of progressive DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering experience, preferably within enterprise-scale SaaS environments or high-growth technology companies.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and supporting production cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and/or other major cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP.
  • Proven experience leading or coordinating DevOps initiatives, infrastructure projects, or cloud migration/modernization efforts.
  • Experience operating highly available, distributed systems in production environments.

What You Bring

Strong Proficiency With

  • AWS and/or other major cloud platforms (Azure, GCP)
  • Terraform, CDKTF, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS
  • CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions
  • Cloud-native compute, networking, storage, database, security, and observability services
  • Linux environments and systems administration
  • Python, Bash, or similar scripting and automation languages

Strong Understanding Of

  • Cloud networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, load balancing, NAT, firewalls/security groups, and private connectivity
  • Identity and access management, including role-based access and least-privilege principles
  • Containerized and microservices-based architectures
  • Observability and monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent tools
  • High availability, scalability, disaster recovery, backup, and failover strategies
  • Cloud security best practices and automated compliance frameworks
  • CI/CD security and software supply-chain security
  • Cloud cost management and infrastructure optimization
  • Distributed systems and performance optimization
  • Node.js and Vue.js application deployment and operational requirements
  • Supporting complex enterprise environments with high availability and large user bases

Experience across multiple cloud providers is valuable, but deep expertise in one major cloud platform combined with strong cloud architecture fundamentals is more important than experience with any specific provider.
