About CodeRoad

CodeRoad provides end-to-end software development services, helping businesses scale with ideal infrastructure solutions. From staff augmentation to dedicated IT teams and general software engineering, our nearshore technology services empower businesses to thrive in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

About the Role

The Intermediate Automation QA Engineer (Level 2) is a key contributor within a Product Oriented Delivery (POD), responsible for the consistent delivery of automated test tasks and framework enhancements. At Level 2, the role moves beyond the foundational learning stage and is expected to handle well-defined automation challenges with increasing independence.

The primary focus of the role is high-quality execution. You are expected to write clean, maintainable automation scripts, participate actively in Agile ceremonies, and collaborate effectively with your peers. While you still receive guidance on complex testing architecture decisions from Senior Automation Engineers, you are expected to take initiative in automating test scenarios and managing your own time to meet sprint automation goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Implementation

  • Task Execution: Deliver automated UI and API test scripts, fix flaky tests, and perform maintenance tasks that are performant, secure, and aligned with project standards.
  • Code/Deliverable Quality: Adhere to established best automation practices (e.g., DRY principles, Page Object Models, linting) to ensure the long-term health and stability of the test codebase.
  • Testing & Validation: Own the quality of your automation work by implementing local execution validations and ensuring scripts pass reliably before handing off for peer review.

2. Team Contribution & Collaboration

  • Active Participation: Engage in daily stand-ups, grooming sessions, and retrospectives, providing clear updates on automation progress, coverage gaps, and script blockers.
  • Peer Reviews: Participate in the code review process, both by receiving feedback with a growth mindset and by providing initial pull request reviews for testing peers.
  • Documentation: Contribute to technical testing documentation and “readmes” to ensure the test framework setup and execution knowledge remains shared and accessible.

3. Continuous Learning

  • Skill Development: Actively work to master the automation tools, programming languages, and CI/CD technologies used within your Product Oriented Delivery (POD), seeking out learning opportunities.
  • Process Adoption: Consistently follow the team’s Git workflows, automation CI/CD pipeline execution processes, and communication protocols (Slack, Jira, etc.).

Success Measures

  • Predictability: Ability to estimate automation tasks accurately and deliver reliable scripts within the agreed-upon sprint timeframe.
  • Technical Growth: Demonstrable improvement in automation depth, clean code practices, and the ability to handle increasingly complex data-driven testing tasks over time.
  • Team Synergy: Positive contributions to the Product Oriented Delivery (POD)’s velocity and a collaborative attitude toward improving continuous integration stability.
  • Quality Ratio: Maintaining a low rate of “returns” on automated pull requests and reducing the occurrence of false positives within test executions.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of quality assurance automation principles, programming languages (such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, or Python), and test execution tools. API testing experience, is better if it’s with postman, database sql basic to mid
  • Logical Reasoning: Ability to debug script failures systematically and understand how application source code changes impact the automated testing suite.
  • English Communication: Intermediate to advanced English skills, sufficient for participating in technical code discussions and writing clear repository documentation.
  • Proactivity: A “can-do” attitude and the willingness to ask questions early to avoid test automation development roadblocks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in a QA Automation Engineer or SDET role.
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum framework.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git), fundamental execution environments, and basic CI/CD pipeline knowledge.
  • Experience with at least one major automation testing framework (e.g., Cypress, Selenium, Playwright).
  • Solid English proficiency (written and verbal) for client-facing collaboration.
