About Organization
Cloud Platform Department provides end-to-end services for Rakuten Mobile’s virtualized infrastructure, from build to operations. Our Data Center E&O Team manages the full lifecycle of our data centers—from build and decommissioning to day-to-day operations and cost management across ~40 sites nationwide.
We are currently looking to strengthen our team to ensure the highest performance and reliability of the systems running within our facilities. By joining us, you will have the unique opportunity to manage the infrastructure supporting the world’s first large-scale commercial mobile network, while collaborating with virtualization, networking, and hardware teams to drive cloud and AI infrastructure excellence.
Our organization consists of over 140 professionals, including experts in virtualization, networking, hardware, field engineering, and project management, many of whom bring extensive experience from data center operators, telecommunications companies, and IT equipment vendors.
Job Duties
In this role, you will be responsible for both day-to-day operations and strategic data center build/decommissioning projects:
- Daily Operations: Service monitoring, incident management, maintenance coordination, change management, capacity planning, and vendor management.
- Build & Decommissioning: Designing and procuring data center infrastructure across Japan, ensuring delivery aligns with project timelines and requirements.
- Strategic Initiatives: Depending on your experience, you will contribute to operational improvements, cost management, project support, and business planning.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of data center facilities (e.g., racks, power, cooling, optical cabling, patch panels).
- Experience using multiple data centers as a tenant, including access control and hands-on work within data halls.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders such as data center operators and telecommunications providers.
- Proven experience working as a team member on IT infrastructure-related projects.
- Approximately 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional proficiency in Japanese (JLPT N2 or above) and business-level English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as a technician or in facility management at a data center operator.
- Experience in infrastructure operations based on the ITIL framework.
- Experience in IT workload capacity planning and management.
- Hands-on experience in data center-related IT infrastructure projects, including build, migration, and decommissioning.
- Experience in budget planning and cost control.
- Relevant certifications such as ITIL, PMP, CDCP, DCPRO, or BICSI.
