Full description

Our client is seeking a DevOps Engineer / Cloud Engineer Level 1 to support a mission-critical Government program in Laurel, MD. This position will support the transition, integration, automation, and operation of applications and capabilities within cloud environments.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AWS, Ansible, CI/CD, Linux, infrastructure automation, and DevOps methodologies, with the ability to work closely with system administrators, developers, and other technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess existing capabilities and identify opportunities to expand DevOps adoption and transition applications and systems into cloud environments.
  • Analyze existing systems to identify data migration, software modification, security, legal, and compliance requirements associated with cloud transformation.
  • Collaborate with System Administrators to plan, prioritize, and coordinate technical activities supporting cloud migration and ongoing system operations.
  • Use Ansible and other automation and configuration management tools to streamline system administration, deployment, and operational processes.
  • Plan, test, and deploy system security patches, kernel updates, and software upgrades using established patch and configuration management tools.
  • Support the design, development, and testing of software modifications required for cloud migration.
  • Develop, test, and coordinate deployment plans for application and infrastructure changes within cloud environments.
  • Apply cloud engineering best practices to improve system performance, reliability, automation, scalability, and resource utilization.
  • Support Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) processes and automation.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in Agile development and engineering activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related technical discipline and at least 3 years of software development/engineering experience.
  • An additional 4 years of software development experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with cloud technologies.
  • Experience implementing, managing, or optimizing DevOps practices within a project or organization.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, tools, and methodologies, including automation and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD processes and technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in AWS, DevOps, cloud engineering, or related technologies.
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, including Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience managing and supporting systems hosted within AWS or other virtualized/cloud environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows environments.
