About Priority Commerce:
Priority Commerce is a leading financial technology company on a mission to deliver a personalized, easy-to-adopt financial toolset that accelerates cash flow and optimizes working capital for businesses. Our vision is to eliminate the barriers to unlocking revenue - empowering businesses to grow faster and operate smarter.
We achieve this through the Priority Commerce Engine, an innovative platform that combines payables, acquiring, and banking and treasury solutions. This unified approach allows businesses to streamline financial operations, reduce unnecessary costs, and uncover new revenue opportunities.
At Priority Commerce, we're driven by results. We expect our people to be known for results - bringing expertise, momentum, and relentless focus to every challenge, helping our clients and each other thrive.
About the Role:
As a Risk Data Analyst, you will sit at the intersection of data science and financial risk, helping us identify, quantify, and mitigate risk across our merchant portfolio, payment channels, and partner ecosystem. You'll work closely with underwriting, compliance, fraud operations, and product teams to surface insights that protect the business and enable growth.
This is a high-impact role for someone who is analytically rigorous, naturally curious, and comfortable translating complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze transaction, merchant, and portfolio data to identify risk trends, anomalies, and emerging exposures across credit, fraud, and operational risk categories.
- Create recurring and ad hoc reports using SQL Server, Snowflake, Excel, Periscope, Tableau, and other business intelligence tools.
- Build and maintain dashboards, models, and reports that give risk stakeholders real-time visibility into key risk indicators (KRIs), chargeback rates, merchant health scores, and portfolio concentration.
- Develop and refine recommendations for improvements in merchant underwriting, onboarding, and ongoing monitoring.
- Support chargeback and dispute analysis — identifying root causes, tracking trends by various dimensions (like MCC, processor, and/or partner), and recommending remediation strategies.
- Conduct portfolio segmentation analysis to identify high-risk merchant segments and inform risk appetite decisions.
- Automate recurring risk reporting and data workflows to reduce manual effort and improve turnaround time.
- Collaborate with product, engineering and data teams to ensure risk data pipelines are accurate, complete, and timely.
- Assist in regulatory and audit-related data requests, ensuring documentation is thorough and defensible.
- Stay current on payment industry risk trends, regulatory developments, and evolving fraud typologies.
- Ability to present data and findings to management.
What Success Looks Like:
- Proactive Risk Detection: Identify anomalous transactions, emerging fraud trends, and credit or operational exposures early through robust portfolio segmentation and risk data analysis.
- Actionable Dashboarding: Build and maintain Tableau, Periscope, or Snowflake dashboards that provide stakeholders with real-time visibility into key risk indicators (KRIs), chargeback rates, and merchant health.
- Optimized Underwriting & Monitoring: Drive continuous improvements in merchant onboarding, underwriting guidelines, and ongoing portfolio monitoring through data-backed recommendations.
- Effective Dispute Remediation: Identify the root causes of chargebacks and disputes across MCCs, processors, or partners, and implement highly targeted remediation strategies.
- Workflow Automation: Design and automate critical data workflows and risk reporting schedules to minimize manual work and optimize reporting turnaround times.
- Collaborative Data Governance: Maintain strong partnerships with product, engineering, and data teams to ensure risk pipelines are built on accurate, high-integrity data.
- Audit & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all regulatory and audit-related data requests are supported by thorough, defensible, and easily accessible documentation.
- Strategic Communication: Translate complex data trends and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance shifts into clear, actionable presentations for executive management.
Candidate Requirements:
Required:
- 2–5 years of experience in risk analytics, fraud analytics, financial data analysis, or a related field within payments, fintech, banking, or commerce.
- Proficiency in SQL Server or Snowflake for querying large transactional datasets; experience with Python or R is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated experience building dashboards and visualizations in tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar.
- Solid understanding of payment risk concepts — chargebacks, disputes, fraud typologies, merchant underwriting, and credit risk.
- Strong analytical thinking: able to frame ambiguous problems, develop hypotheses, and validate findings with data.
- Excellent communication skills — able to present complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Preferred:
- Experience at a payments processor, acquiring-bank, ISO, or fintech.
- Familiarity with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard) as they relate to chargeback thresholds and dispute management.
- Exposure to AML, KYC, or BSA compliance data analysis.
- Experience with rules engines applied to fraud or credit risk scoring.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as PCI-DSS, Regulation E, or NACHA rules.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
