BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES
The Cleveland Board of Education adopted the Building Brighter Futures (BBF) initiative on December 9, 2025. Building Brighter Futures is a strategic and data-driven plan shaped by more than a year of community engagement, information analysis, and thoughtful deliberation. The goal of this plan is to strengthen enrollment and ensure scholars attend a newer school building that offers more educational opportunities, including algebra in the eighth grade, more sports and extracurricular activities, and college credits and college and career pathways in high school. BBF is ensuring academic excellence so every CMSD scholar can thrive.

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Grants Management, provides fiscal and operational oversight of local, state, and federal gifts and grants received by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Interfaces with multiple departments and stakeholders to ensure appropriate planning and use of gifts and grants. Establishes and maintains liaisons with private, local, state, and federal entities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Educates leaders and support staff in departments and schools on the allocation of resources for grant level program budgets and funding sources, including general funds and grant or gift funds
- Establishes and maintains liaison relationship with internal and external stakeholders
- Provides subject matter expertise on key grant related finance tools and processes
- Monitors, reviews and approves or rejects gifts and grant expenditures and makes proactive recommendations
- Utilizes a variety of computer systems to create reports as needed and to analyze budgets
- Documents processes and procedures, implements process improvements and retains documentation as required
- Provides guidance for decision-making on program budgets
- Recommends and implements needed budgeting, purchasing, and accounting procedures
- Supports these budget departments: Position control management, Allovue, Workday Inbox/Journal reviews
- Maintains familiarity with local, state, and federal funding resources, specific grants and their requirements and alignment with school, department and District strategies
- Establishes budgets, monitors and approves spending. Creates invoices and prepares reimbursement/cash requests as necessary
- Develops and analyzes data & metrics for the division. Develops and extracts reports from databases for delivery to internal and external stakeholders. Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public records requests or other reporting obligations.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners on special projects as assigned
- Participates in professional development activities (i.e. meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.) to improve and remain abreast of professional and legislative advancements & innovations. Remains abreast of changing and emerging technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other relevant field of study
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in accounting, financial management, business management, or auditing, preferably in public or non-profit organizations
- Valid Ohio driver's license and reliable transportation
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and policies
- Proficiency with general office technologies (i.e., PC, tablet, etc.), virtual meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom, Teams, etc.), software packages (i.e., Microsoft Office). Proficiency with enterprise technologies & databases (i.e., Workday, eSchoolPlus, SchoolNet, BoardDocs, Poll Everywhere, PowerBI and others) online data management systems, and data collection methodology
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with department executives and administrators in business planning and decision-making. Skilled with interfacing with District staff, students, parents, and the general public to address sensitive topics.
- Project management skills necessary to successfully implement a variety of finance projects
- Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Good customer service, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills. Strong interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity and competence.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other District departments and external stakeholders (i.e., parents, legislators, and the general public)
- Ability to efficiently multi-task on a daily basis while meeting deadlines and producing quality results
- Ability to perform with confidence and openness in the face of change, ambiguity, and uncertainty
