Full description

Design scalable, secure and maintainable enterprise software solutions. The role needs a strong development background, with the architect comfortable across application architecture, cloud, integration, infrastructure and distributed systems. The right person has come through Java development, not an infrastructure-only path.

Requirements

Key responsibilities:

  • Own the solution design for enterprise applications, from business requirement through to a buildable technical design.
  • Define application, integration and cloud architecture for Java and Spring Boot services, including microservices and
  • distributed systems.
  • Design RESTful APIs and integration patterns, including security (JWT and API security), and keep contracts clear for
  • consuming teams.
  • Set the Azure architecture for the solution, covering hosting, identity, networking and operational fit, and align delivery
  • with Azure DevOps.
  • Design data access against relational databases and SQL, including how services share and own data.
  • Put CI/CD and containerisation (Docker) into the delivery design so builds, releases and environments stay repeatable.
  • Build security into the design: authentication, authorisation, secrets, and how services talk to each other.
  • Produce architecture and design documentation that developers, infrastructure and business stakeholders can use.
  • Work with development, infrastructure and business teams to translate requirements, challenge weak designs, and keep
  • delivery on the agreed architecture.
  • Guide developers on implementation choices and review designs so the solution stays maintainable as it scales.

Must-have experience:

  • Strong software development background, ideally from Java.
  • Significant experience as a Solutions Architect, Technical Architect or Software Architect.
  • Java and the Spring Boot ecosystem.
  • Enterprise application architecture, microservices and distributed architecture.
  • RESTful APIs and API integration.
  • Relational databases and SQL.
  • Cloud architecture, Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps.
  • Security architecture, API security and JWT.
  • CI/CD and Docker / containerisation.
  • Ability to produce architecture and design documentation.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience working with developers, infrastructure and business stakeholders.
