We're creating a $100B+ market opportunity, and we're just getting started. Named one of Forbes America's Best Startup Employers and a Deloitte Technology Fast 500 company, we're building a culture where innovation thrives, collaboration is the norm, and every team member contributes to reshaping how the world understands location.

• SUMMARY:

The Data Quality team sits between data, R&D and the business. We investigate complex data questions, validate the quality of Placer's data and help our customer-facing teams understand what the data is telling us, especially when something doesn't look right.

We're looking for a Senior Data Analyst who really likes data.

Someone who likes investigating, solving puzzles, opening a dataset and digging into it. Someone who doesn't stop at understanding what happened, but wants to understand why.

A big part of the job is hands-on work in Databricks, writing code, creating notebooks, exploring large datasets, testing different hypotheses and following the data until we understand what is going on.

If exploring and reading data sometimes feels like a hobby to you, that's a good sign :)

QA is also a big part of the role. We're in an era where Claude and other AI tools can write a lot of the code for us. The important skill is knowing what to ask, how to test the result, when something doesn't make sense and when you need to keep digging.

The role is primarily hands-on data analysis and investigation, but it also has a customer-facing side. You'll work closely with our Commercial teams and sometimes directly with customers to understand their business questions, explain complex data issues and find practical solutions.

We're looking for someone who enjoys both sides, digging into the data to understand what's going on, and then explaining the findings in a way that makes sense to the customer.

While most of your time will be spent investigating data, you should also feel comfortable joining customer conversations, explaining your findings and helping find solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate complex data questions and customer-reported data discrepancies
  • Work hands-on in Databricks, write code and create notebooks to explore large datasets
  • Use SQL and Python for analysis, investigation and QA
  • Find patterns, anomalies and root causes in the data
  • Build strong QA and validation processes and make sure the results actually make sense
  • Form hypotheses, test them against the data and keep investigating when the first answer isn't good enough
  • Understand whether something is an actual data issue, expected behavior or a limitation of the methodology
  • Work closely with Data Science, Engineering and Product on complex investigations
  • Work with Commercial teams to understand customer needs and translate them into data investigations
  • Join customer calls when needed to understand their data concerns, explain our findings and discuss possible solutions
  • Help customers understand data limitations and find alternative approaches when the data doesn't fully answer their questions
  • Explain technical findings in a simple and clear way to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Identify recurring data issues and help us improve our data quality processes
  • Use AI tools to move faster, while independently validating the output
  • Own investigations from the initial question through to the final findings and recommended solution

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data research or a similar analytical role
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data analysis, investigation and QA
  • Experience working with Databricks or a similar large-scale data environment
  • Experience writing code and creating analytical notebooks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Very strong QA instincts, if something looks strange, your first instinct should be to understand why
  • Good understanding of statistics and data quality
  • Experience working with AI coding and analytical tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar tools
  • Strong business orientation and an ability to understand the problem behind the data request
  • Hands-on experience working directly with customers or external business stakeholders on data-related questions
  • Ability to explain complex data findings to non-technical customers and help them find practical solutions
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Comfortable working with Commercial and customer-facing teams
  • Able to independently own an investigation and drive it to a conclusion
  • You genuinely enjoy exploring data, even when nobody asked you to
  • B.Sc. in a quantitative field - advantage
