Principal Scala Developer

You will be:

• designing, developing, and enhancing scalable backend services using Scala,

• leading performance optimization initiatives across large-scale applications and services,

• proactively investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues impacting system performance and user experience,

• collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify bottlenecks and implement effective technical solutions,

• driving engineering best practices and contributing to the continuous improvement of the platform,

• supporting the onboarding and mentoring of other engineers by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.

Your profile:

• significant commercial experience in Scala backend development, including experience operating at a Principal, Staff, or Lead Engineer level,

• strong background in performance tuning, scalability, and optimization of large-scale systems,

• proven ability to anticipate, analyze, and solve complex technical challenges,

• hands-on experience designing and developing high-quality backend applications,

• practical experience using AI-powered assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve productivity, quality, or decision-making in software delivery,

• ability to make technical decisions and drive engineering excellence,

• curiosity and a proactive approach to investigating problems and identifying effective solutions,

• strong collaboration and communication skills,

• good command of English (min. B2).

• Work from the European Union region and a work permit are required.

Nice to have:

• Experience applying GenAI in a more structured way within the SDLC, including defined workflows, prompt patterns, or tool integrations embedded into daily work.

• Interest in and familiarity with emerging AI-driven practices (e.g. agent-based workflows, automation patterns, AI-augmented development), with a willingness to explore and experiment beyond standard approaches.
