A Snapshot 

As an AI & Data Engineer at AirTrunk, you will contribute to the design, build, and operation of the data and AI systems that power our next-generation platforms. You’ll work across data engineering, AI engineering, and platform technologies to develop scalable and reliable solutions that support operational efficiency, sustainability, and intelligent decision-making across our data centre and business ecosystem. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid foundation in software and data engineering who is looking to deepen their experience in modern data platforms and applied AI. You will work closely with senior engineers and platform teams to build production-ready data pipelines, AI solutions, and platform capabilities while continuing to grow your technical skills.

Your Day to Day

AI Engineering & Applications

  • Support the development and deployment of AI and ML solutions that enhance AirTrunk’s operations, including automation and predictive use cases.
  • Assist in building and integrating LLM-based applications and workflows using tools such as OpenAI, Databricks, or LangChain.
  • Contribute to the development of simple agentic or automation solutions under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Help test, evaluate, and improve model performance and outputs.

Data Engineering & Pipelines

  • Build, maintain, and optimise batch and streaming data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and AI use cases.
  • Develop and test data transformations using tools such as dbt and SQL to create clean, reliable, and reusable datasets.
  • Assist in integrating data from various enterprise systems into the AI & Data Platform.
  • Support data quality, validation, and monitoring processes to ensure trusted and consistent data.

Platform & Engineering Practices

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows for data and AI solutions using tools such as Git, Terraform, and Docker.
  • Follow established engineering standards, patterns, and best practices to ensure quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and support of data and AI workloads in cloud environments such as Azure and Databricks.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving team engineering practices.

MLOps, DataOps & Observability

  • Support the implementation of MLOps and DataOps practices, including deployment, monitoring, and basic lifecycle management of data pipelines and models.
  • Assist in setting up logging, monitoring, and alerting to ensure visibility into pipeline and model performance.
  • Help troubleshoot issues in data pipelines and AI systems, working with senior engineers to resolve production challenges.
  • Contribute to testing and validation processes to ensure reliability and accuracy.

Collaboration & Learning

  • Collaborate with other engineers to deliver integrated, production-ready solutions.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical tasks.
  • Actively learn from senior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing within the Data & AI team.
  • Continuously build skills in data engineering, AI technologies, and cloud platforms.

Requirements  

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in data engineering, software engineering, or AI/ML engineering, with exposure to building data or AI solutions in a cloud environment.
  • Foundational experience building and maintaining data pipelines, with familiarity in batch and streaming processing concepts.
  • Experience working with SQL and Python for data processing, transformation, and basic application development.
  • Exposure to modern data platforms and tools such as Databricks, dbt, Kafka, or similar technologies.
  • Basic understanding of data modelling concepts and data architecture patterns such as lakehouse or medallion architecture.
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts and tools, with some experience building or integrating machine learning or LLM-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and an understanding of deploying applications or data workflows in the cloud.
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices including version control (Git), testing, and code quality.
  • Exposure to CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), or infrastructure as code (Terraform) is beneficial but not required.
  • Awareness of data quality, governance, and security considerations in building data and AI solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
