Senior Software Engineer iOS & Android - Low Level Native
Larkin Lane Films Budapest Kft. Budapest, Central Hungary, Hungary
Technology, Information and Media · 11-50 employees
About the role
Develop and maintain performance-critical C/C++ native code that bridges iOS and Android platforms for a computational imaging application. You will work directly with low-level camera sensor data and optimize system performance for real-time processing.
What they look for
Requirements
Requires expert-level C/C++ proficiency and extensive experience with low-level mobile native development below the Swift/Kotlin layers. Candidates must have at least five years of professional software engineering experience and be eligible to work in Hungary.

Senior Software Engineer iOS & Android - Low Level Native
Job Description
This position is on-site in Budapest and requires EU residency and EU work visa.
General Info
We are building a computational imaging platform that recovers the physical optical properties of a scene — the illumination, the camera’s own response, and how real materials reflect and scatter light — from ordinary consumer camera capture. This is a difficult, high-impact engineering problem, and we are building the whole stack: capture, models, and the applications that run on them. The first keystone component is under provisional patent, with a broader patent family in progress.
In this role you write the performance-critical C/C++ at the core of our mobile apps, working below the Swift/Kotlin app layer to reach the low-level camera and imaging interfaces the high-level SDKs don’t expose — pulling raw data directly off the device camera sensors with fine-grained control over capture.
This is a low-level, native systems role. If your mobile experience is primarily Swift or Kotlin app development, this is not the right role for you.
Tasks
- Write and own the performance-critical C/C++ that forms the shared native core across iOS and Android — fast, correct, and memory-efficient.
- Work below the Swift/Kotlin app layer — in C/C++ and the platform’s lower-level interfaces (Objective-C++, Core Media / Core Video on iOS; the NDK camera APIs on Android) — to access the camera sensors directly and extract raw data the high-level SDKs cannot reach.
- Take direct, fine-grained control of sensor capture, and feed that raw data into the downstream image and video processing.
- Bridge the native core cleanly into each app across the Objective-C++/Swift and JNI/NDK boundaries.
- Optimise for real-time on-device performance — memory, threading, latency, and throughput.
Requirements
Required
- Expert-level C/C++ — your primary language in production, on performance-critical code. This is the bulk of the role.
- Low-level native mobile experience — demonstrable work below the Swift/Kotlin app layer, using C/C++ and the platform’s C-level APIs that the high-level SDKs do not expose. iOS is the primary platform; Android capability is required.
- Hands-on camera/sensor experience — accessing camera capture at a low level and obtaining raw sensor data directly, rather than through high-level convenience APIs.
- Five or more years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping mobile apps to the App Store and/or Google Play.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (BSc); a Master’s in Computer Science (MSc) is preferred.
Preferred
- Experience with image and video processing — color handling, codecs, and hardware video encoding.
- GPU programming (Metal, Vulkan) for imaging or computer-vision workloads.
- Early-stage startup or first-of-its-kind product experience.
- Open-source contributions or a portfolio demonstrating low-level native work.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Hungary, with fluent English knowledge, both written and oral.
Compensation
In accordance with Hungary’s implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive (Directive (EU) 2023/970):
- Salary range: HUF 2,000,000 – HUF 2,500,000 gross per month, depending on experience and demonstrated depth.
- Discretionary performance bonus, with details discussed with shortlisted candidates.
Compensation decisions are made on the basis of objective, gender-neutral criteria, including relevant experience, technical skills, scope of responsibility, and demonstrated performance. The Company does not request salary history during the recruitment process.
Candidates whose experience materially exceeds the scope of this role may be considered for a more senior (principal-level) position, which carries its own compensation range.
