About the role WPP Media is looking for a DevOps Manager to build and operate the cloud, deployment, security, and reliability foundations behind our AI-, data-, media-, and marketing technology platforms in China. The role will create secure, automated, scalable, and observable environments supporting enterprise applications, data services, AI workloads, intelligent agents, media tools, and high-volume content processing. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and production operations. The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on technical capability with an understanding of the challenges of operating technology within China. Key responsibilities • Lead the design, implementation, and operation of cloud infrastructure supporting WPP Media’s technology platforms in China. • Build secure and scalable environments for applications, APIs, data workloads, AI models, agentic workflows, and digital asset processing. • Support deployment across AWS China and other local cloud environments while maintaining alignment with global architecture and engineering standards. • Manage the operational differences between AWS China and global AWS environments, including service availability, connectivity, accounts, billing, and compliance. • Build and operate containerised application environments using Docker. • Design, deploy, secure, and manage Kubernetes clusters for production workloads. • Establish standards for container images, registries, deployment patterns, networking, scaling, secrets management, and lifecycle management. • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application, infrastructure, data, and AI deployments. • Implement infrastructure as code, configuration management, automated testing, security checks, approvals, rollback, and release-management processes. • Build and operate infrastructure supporting text, image, video, audio, multimodal, and agentic AI workloads. • Support model access, routing, scaling, monitoring, and cost management. • Establish monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, incident-management, backup, and disaster-recovery standards. • Define operational health metrics and improve reliability through capacity planning, resilience testing, and root-cause analysis. • Embed security through identity and access management, secrets management, encryption, network controls, vulnerability management, and audit logging. • Support China cybersecurity, data-residency, network, and regulatory requirements. • Create reliable approaches for synchronising global and China engineering environments. • Improve developer experience through self-service tooling, documentation, templates, reusable modules, and operational runbooks. • Monitor and optimise cloud, storage, network, model, token, and processing costs. • Manage infrastructure and cloud partners while maintaining strong internal ownership. Experience and education • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, cloud infrastructure, or a related discipline. • Strong hands-on experience with AWS China, including the services available in China regions and the operational differences from global AWS. • Deep experience with Docker and containerised application environments. • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including cluster design, deployment, scaling, security, monitoring, and production operations. • Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines for applications, infrastructure, data, and AI workloads. • Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code, cloud networking, Linux, scripting, configuration management, and automation. • Experience operating enterprise applications and distributed systems in production. • Experience supporting AI, machine learning, data engineering, or high-compute workloads is strongly preferred. • Strong knowledge of observability, resilience, incident management, security, backup, and disaster recovery. • Practical understanding of identity and access management, secrets management, vulnerability management, and secure software delivery. • Experience working across global and China-based engineering environments is highly desirable. • Familiarity with China cloud, network, cybersecurity, regulatory, and data-residency requirements. • Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Cloud Computing, or a related discipline. • Relevant AWS, Kubernetes, security, or DevOps certifications are desirable. • Equivalent practical experience will also be considered. • Fluent Mandarin and strong professional English are preferred. What success looks like • Reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure across WPP Media’s technology environment. • Faster, safer, and more predictable releases with reduced manual effort. • Strong observability and clear operational accountability. • Improved developer productivity and shorter time from development to production. • Effective control of cloud, infrastructure, and AI costs. • Platforms that meet China security, data, regulatory, and operational requirements. • Fewer incidents, faster recovery, and continuous improvement in resilience.
