The Role The DevOps Engineer is a key enabler of engineering excellence, responsible for designing, securing, and evolving the platforms, tools, and processes that underpin software delivery across the business. With end-to-end ownership of the engineering technology landscape, this role drives innovation, automation, and continuous improvement, ensuring teams have the capabilities they need to build, deploy, and operate world-class solutions. Working at the intersection of Engineering, IT, Security, and business stakeholders, the DevOps Engineer influences technology strategy, delivers transformative tooling and platform capabilities, and creates a secure, scalable, and high-performing engineering environment that supports the organisation's growth and future ambitions.
What will I be delivering: Engineering Systems Ownership
- Own and manage all engineering software platforms and tools (e.g. CAD/EDA tools, simulation software, CI/CD pipelines, version control, requirements management, build systems, test and deployment tooling).
- Act as the technical authority for engineering systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Manage system lifecycles including evaluation, deployment, upgrades, support, and decommissioning.
Solution Scoping & Architecture
- Work with Engineering, Product, and IT stakeholders to understand requirements and pain points.
- Scope, assess, and recommend appropriate tools and solutions, balancing capability, cost, security, and compliance.
- Design and maintain DevOps and engineering system architectures, including on‑premise, hybrid, and cloud solutions where appropriate.
- Ensure tooling aligns with business growth, engineering roadmaps, and operational resilience requirements.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure all engineering systems are secure by design, aligned with organisational cyber security policies and frameworks (e.g. Cyber Essentials Plus, NIST, DCC/CMMC where applicable).
- Implement and maintain access control, identity management, logging, monitoring, and auditability across engineering platforms.
- Work closely with IT Security to assess and mitigate risks, including supplier and third‑party tools.
- Support audits, assessments, and customer assurance activities related to engineering systems.
Administration & Operations
- Perform or oversee day‑to‑day administration of engineering and DevOps platforms.
- Automate system provisioning, configuration, and maintenance where possible.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and usage; proactively address issues and bottlenecks.
- Define and maintain documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a bridge between Engineering and IT, ensuring shared ownership and clear accountability.
- Support engineering teams in adopting best practices for DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and tool usage.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and developer experience.
- Provide training, guidance, and support to engineering users as required.

- Strong experience managing DevOps and engineering software environments.
- Proven ability to scope, select, and implement technical solutions in a complex organisation.
- Solid understanding of security principles, access control, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and infrastructure‑as‑code concepts.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a regulated or security‑sensitive environment.
