Benefits

Fully remote Engineering buddy

Full description

Company Overview Our client is a fast-growing, venture-backed SaaS company helping frontline workers access life-changing benefits like childcare, elder care, and nutrition assistance. Their AI-powered platform connects employees to available government programs—cutting through complexity and delivering support where it matters most.

Used by major retailers, healthcare providers, and Fortune 500 companies, the product is trusted to handle sensitive workflows in regulated environments. The fully remote team is mission-driven, pragmatic, and growing quickly, with strong enterprise backing and a clear expansion path.

Your Role

This is not a “run the test plan someone else wrote” role. Until now, engineers have checked their own releases. The product has grown into a web app, connections to outside systems and AI chat features, so each release now needs someone who can say whether it’s ready, with evidence. New federal Medicaid rules start January 1, 2027, and the team is building tools that help states keep eligible people covered through them. You’ll start by building the automated tests and the ready-to-ship check for the releases closest to that date. It’s a hands-on, senior seat with no direct reports. You decide where the risk is, which team needs you most, and what “done” means.

You’ll:

  • Test strategy and automation
  • Decide where the product is most likely to break and what gets tested first
  • Build end-to-end journeys, a smoke suite on every build, and integration tests in code engineers review and keep
  • Pick the tools and run everything in GitHub Actions
  • Release verdicts
  • Give engineers a “ready / not ready” note before each release: what passed, what failed, what nobody checked
  • Write a plain-language summary for non-engineers of what’s verified, and push back on a risky date with evidence
  • Testing inside delivery teams
  • Sit with customer-facing teams and test features while they’re being built, moving between teams as workload shifts
  • Set a shared definition of “done” and coach engineers on testing their own work
  • Web app, services and outside systems
  • Run functional, regression and accessibility tests across browsers and devices, and check each customer’s configuration
  • Test APIs and asynchronous flows between services, and write contract tests for outside systems
  • Make sure the product behaves sensibly when a dependency is slow, down or returns wrong data
  • AI chat features
  • Build evaluation suites with golden datasets for chatbots and assistants, rerun them on every prompt or model change, and test guardrails
  • Use AI tools to write, maintain and triage tests
  • Test data and security
  • Seed realistic test data for a complex system, inside strict access and data-protection rules
  • Help find and fix security vulnerabilities in the app and its infrastructure

You Bring:

  • 5+ years in quality, test or software engineering, with automation you wrote yourself, running in CI and kept by other engineers
  • At least one test practice you built from a low baseline: you chose the tools, wrote the first suites, wired them into CI, and can explain what you left untested
  • Strong test code in Python or TypeScript across API, browser and pipeline, including headless browser runs and integration tests for failing dependencies
  • Experience testing business rules you had to learn first: you read the policy, found the gaps, and wrote tests from the answers
  • Experience as the only quality person across several teams, setting your own priorities with no backlog handed to you
  • Clear written updates for engineers and non-engineers alike, including the confidence to challenge a deadline with facts

What’s Offered

  • Fully remote across the U.S., with live collaboration during U.S. business hours
  • Full-time, permanent seat (about 40 hours a week)
  • Competitive USD compensation (bring your target to the first call)
  • Real authority: you define the testing strategy, the automation and what “good” looks like
  • An engineering buddy to help you get set up from day one
  • Direct impact: your work helps families get and keep the benefits they’re eligible for
