Role Description:

The Analytics Engineer role is a 12 month fixed term opportunity in our Future Energy team based at our Central Park office in Perth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data and analytics infrastructure that underpins asset performance and analytics across Synergy’s Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and generation portfolio. This role bridges the gap between raw operational data and actionable insight – ensuring that data from BESS, solar, wind, VPP, and EV assets is modelled, integrated, and surfaced in a way that enables data-driven decision-making across the Future Energy business unit.

Working alongside the Data Scientist and Senior Asset Engineer, this role owns the data engineering layer: pipelines, schemas, platform integration, and analytical tooling. The Analytics Engineer ensures the team’s analytical and engineering outputs are built on robust, scalable, and well-governed data.

Job responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows to ingest, transform, and integrate data from OT/SCADA, BMS, databases, metering, and third-party platforms (e.g., Third Party Vendors, AEMO) into structured analytical environments. 

• Build and maintain data models and schemas that support asset performance monitoring, predictive analytics, and regulatory reporting across BESS, solar, wind, VPP, and broader DER assets. 

• Develop and manage dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Databricks notebooks) that surface fleet-level and asset-level performance insights to operational and executive stakeholders.

• Collaborate with the Data Scientist to operationalise machine learning models – ensuring models are deployed into production-ready pipelines with appropriate monitoring, versioning, and data quality controls.  You will need to work with the Senior Asset Engineer to translate engineering requirements into data specifications, ensuring analytical outputs align with asset management and ISO 55001 frameworks.

• Contribute to the DER Reporting, Analytics & Digital Roadmap, identifying opportunities to improve digital maturity and analytical capability across the portfolio. 

What you will bring:

• Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering or a related discipline. 

• Demonstrated experience with data engineering tools and platforms, including Databricks, SQL, databases, Python, and cloud-based data architectures.  Proficiency in data modelling, schema design, and database management (relational and/or Lakehouse architectures). 

• Experience building and maintaining dashboards and analytical reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, or equivalent). 

• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipeline design, data integration patterns, and data quality frameworks. 

• Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward practical, scalable solutions over theoretical perfection.
