About the Opportunity

DMI, LLC is seeking a Python Developer to design, build, and operate the internal applications and automation that support a large federal enterprise IT services program. The program provides IT support to thousands of users across Washington, DC and nationwide field locations. The Python Developer will turn manual, time-intensive processes into reliable tools, including AI-enabled automation, that give program leadership accurate, timely data on ticket status, service level performance, procurement, and asset accountability.

This role works directly with program leadership and functional team leads. The right candidate is comfortable working with minimal supervision and owning an application from requirements through production support, works from evidence, and fixes root causes rather than symptoms.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Application Development and Automation
  • Design, develop, and maintain internal Python web applications using Flask and Streamlit that support service delivery, procurement, acquisition lifecycle tracking, and asset accountability.
  • Automate recurring manual workflows such as report generation, data reconciliation, document assembly, and ticket follow-up.
  • Apply AI and large language model capabilities where they add measurable value, such as extracting data from purchase orders and other unstructured documents, classifying and summarizing tickets, and drafting status reports for human review.
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation, while personally validating all generated code before it reaches production.
  • Deliver work in short, demonstrable increments and incorporate stakeholder feedback between releases.
  • ServiceNow and Asset Manager Integration
  • Build and maintain integrations with ServiceNow to retrieve and report on ticket and request data.
  • Integrate Asset Manager purchase order and asset records with ServiceNow ticket data to support end-to-end tracking from order through receipt and delivery.
  • Develop ticket monitoring and notification tools that support requirements for timely status updates and service level response and resolution windows.
  • Design integrations following least-privilege access principles.
  • Reporting and Data Reconciliation
  • Produce service level performance reporting, including monthly close processes.
  • Ensure data accuracy across procurement, receiving, and asset records in ServiceNow, Asset Manager, and other data sources.
  • Generate and parse PDF, Excel, and CSV documents, including purchase order and asset accountability records.
  • Platform Deployment and Operations
  • Deploy and operate applications in a secure Linux environment.
  • Maintain separate development and production environments, and promote changes to production only after testing and validation in development.
  • Apply DevOps practices, including version-controlled deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated build, test, and release processes.
  • Design, implement, and regularly test backup and recovery strategies for applications, configurations, and databases, including documented restore procedures.
  • Maintain deployment and monitoring scripts, with documented verification and rollback steps for every change.
  • Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Quality, Security, and Documentation
  • Write automated tests and apply code quality practices.
  • Follow secure coding practices aligned with NIST guidance, including protected credential handling and least-privilege access.
  • Ensure AI features use only approved services, keep sensitive data protected, and include human review of outputs that drive decisions or customer-facing results.
  • Follow change management practices aligned with ISO/IEC 20000.
  • Produce runbooks, user guides, and knowledge articles in coordination with the Knowledge Management team.
  • Collaboration
  • Translate operational problems raised by team leads into clear requirements and working tools.
  • Brief technical findings in plain language to program leadership and non-technical staff.

Qualifications

Education and Years of Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience integrating with REST APIs, including authentication, pagination, and error handling.

  • Experience managing separate development and production environments, including controlled promotion of changes between them.
  • Experience designing and testing backup and recovery strategies for applications and databases.
