Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer

ARM Cortex-M | Autonomous Undersea Systems

We are hiring a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to develop firmware for next-generation autonomous undersea systems and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) supporting defense applications. This role focuses on bare-metal embedded C development, ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, electrical engineering, firmware integration, hardware/software interfaces, and embedded system verification, with a DoD Secret security clearance required at time of hire.

This role supports a cross-functional engineering team responsible for requirements analysis, electrical and firmware design, integration, testing, verification, technical reviews, and root cause analysis for complex autonomous undersea platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, implement, and test bare-metal firmware in C for ARM Cortex-M and other microcontroller architectures.
  • Develop low-level drivers and interfaces for embedded peripherals, including SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, ADC, PWM, and timer modules.
  • Apply electrical engineering principles to the development, testing, and implementation of electrical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Participate in requirements analysis, system design, integration, verification, and validation activities.
  • Profile and optimize embedded firmware for performance, power consumption, memory utilization, and system constraints.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, systems architects, project leaders, program managers, and product teams to translate system requirements into firmware solutions.
  • Support technical reviews, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for electrical and embedded system issues.
  • Execute engineering activities within established development processes while supporting program and customer requirements.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance required at time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing bare-metal embedded firmware in C.
  • Experience developing firmware for ARM Cortex-M or other microcontroller architectures.
  • Experience developing drivers and low-level interfaces for embedded peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, ADC, PWM, and timers.
  • Experience profiling and optimizing embedded code for performance, power consumption, and memory constraints.
  • Experience supporting electrical or embedded system requirements analysis, design, integration, testing, and verification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SWD/JTAG debuggers, and embedded testing frameworks to validate firmware functionality.
  • Research & Development (R&D) experience with emerging technologies.
  • Experience supporting complex engineering design teams and cross-functional technical projects.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to apply artificial intelligence (AI) to engineering process improvement or technical innovation.
