Sr. Engineering Manager, PCI ISO

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Engineering Manager, PCI ISO based in Brazil.

As a Sr. Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing software engineering team building secure, scalable, and reliable payment technology.You’ll combine people leadership with hands-on technical direction across distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.The role has a strong focus on PCI and ISO8583-based payment and card-issuing environments, where reliability and security are critical.You’ll oversee the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and technical planning through testing, deployment, and production support.You’ll partner with global stakeholders to translate business needs into robust technical solutions and guide strategic engineering decisions.You’ll also champion observability, operational excellence, automation, and emerging technologies such as Generative AI.This is an opportunity to shape both engineering outcomes and team culture within a complex, high-availability payments environment.

Accountabilities:

• Lead, hire, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, performance management, and career development.

• Create a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement.

• Drive delivery of scalable, secure, reliable, and high-performance services aligned with business priorities and long-term platform strategy.

• Oversee the complete software development lifecycle, including technical planning, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.

• Review business requirements and contribute to functional and technical design documentation, identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement.

• Guide the design and implementation of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and integration patterns that address complex computing challenges.

• Establish and maintain strong engineering standards covering code quality, test coverage, performance, resilience, security, scalability, and maintainability.

• Promote comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, to ensure robust and reliable systems.

• Ensure production services are properly monitored and operated in line with SLOs, SLAs, reliability objectives, and operational excellence standards.

• Lead incident management and serve as a senior escalation point during critical technical issues, outages, and other high-impact situations.

• Identify and mitigate technical risks related to performance, reliability, scalability, security, and technical debt.

• Collaborate with product, business, and other cross-functional stakeholders to translate organizational needs into effective technical solutions.

• Contribute to feature prioritization, architectural improvements, technical initiatives, and broader engineering strategy.

• Drive productivity, delivery predictability, and quality while ensuring alignment with OKRs and organizational objectives.

• Participate in architectural reviews, technical discussions, proof-of-concepts, and evaluations of emerging technologies.

• Promote the effective use of Generative AI and other emerging technologies to improve engineering productivity, decision-making, and development workflows.

• Communicate clearly with global teams, leadership, and technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Act autonomously in complex and high-impact situations, providing technical and people leadership during conflicts, crises, and critical decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 11+ years of relevant professional experience without a degree.

• Professional experience within the financial services, payments, authorization systems, or another closely related industry.

• Strong experience with card-issuing solutions and payment ecosystems, including exposure to major card networks.

• Hands-on knowledge of ISO8583 messaging systems and payment transaction environments.

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams in production environments, ideally supporting mission-critical or high-availability systems.

• Strong background in distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.

• Experience designing, operating, troubleshooting, and evolving complex distributed systems.

• Experience developing and implementing testing strategies covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure, or comparable cloud platforms and cloud-native technologies.

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, logging, tracing, and modern software engineering practices.

• Strong ability to assess and improve code quality, system performance, scalability, resilience, and reliability.

• Experience contributing to architectural decisions and guiding engineering teams through system design and technical evolution.

• Excellent people management skills, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and talent development.

• Strong Agile and engineering management practices, with the ability to balance technical priorities and business objectives.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with international and cross-functional teams.

• Professional English proficiency at B2 level or above (Upper-Intermediate).

• Experience applying Generative AI or other emerging technologies to engineering workflows is a plus.
