This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Data Scientist based in Canada.

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist, you will play a strategic role in shaping high-impact business decisions through rigorous, data-driven analysis. You will partner directly with senior executives and cross-functional leaders to turn complex, ambiguous questions into clear recommendations. The role combines deep technical expertise with strong business judgment, influencing long-term strategy across a mission-driven technology organization. You will work with large-scale, high-dimensional datasets and apply advanced statistical and analytical methods to solve challenging problems. Beyond individual projects, you will raise the technical bar for the broader Data Science organization through mentorship and technical leadership. Success in this role requires the ability to communicate complex insights clearly and influence decisions without relying on formal authority. Accountabilities

  • Shape high-priority business decisions by developing rigorous analyses, surfacing key insights, and translating ambiguity into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Partner closely with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders to understand strategic questions, evaluate tradeoffs, and align teams around data-informed decisions.
  • Design and deliver sophisticated analytical solutions for complex problems involving large-scale and high-dimensional datasets.
  • Establish a high technical standard across analytical work through sound methodology, statistical rigor, thoughtful experimentation, and pragmatic execution.
  • Build trusted relationships with leaders across the organization, using data and expertise to influence decisions and challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Mentor data scientists and advise managers on technical direction, analytical approaches, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Data Science community by sharing expertise, elevating analytical quality, and helping establish effective technical practices.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data science, analytics, or a closely related discipline, with a track record of influencing high-impact business or strategic decisions.
  • Deep technical expertise in Python or R, SQL, statistics, and modern data science tooling.
  • Strong foundation in statistical and analytical methodologies, with the judgment to select appropriate approaches for complex and ambiguous problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate sophisticated technical findings into concise, decision-ready recommendations for executive and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven success influencing cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders without relying on formal authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts while maintaining analytical rigor.
  • Experience mentoring data scientists, providing technical guidance, and raising the quality of analytical work across a broader organization.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and the ability to assess when new tools or approaches can meaningfully improve analytical outcomes.
  • Experience working across multiple industries, business domains, or problem spaces is a plus.

Compensation

  • Canada Tier 1 locations: CAD $191,000–$255,000.
  • Canada Tier 2 locations: CAD $173,000–$231,000.
  • Compensation is determined based on factors such as location, experience, skills, and other applicable considerations.
  • Additional compensation may include performance-based incentives and other benefits outlined above.
