Job Description
The Application Engineer – Solutions Engineering is responsible for supporting customer-facing solution development, from early engagement and requirements definition through solution design, documentation, and deployment support.
This role works cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, and Engineering to ensure that standard products or minor derivatives are effectively applied to meet customer needs.
Core Objective: Enable successful customer solution development by translating application requirements into optimized technical designs and ensuring seamless execution across the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Early Customer Engagement & Requirements Definition
- Collaborate with Sales and customers to understand application requirements, constraints, and success criteria
- Define and document technical requirements, including performance, environmental, and integration needs
- Support feasibility analysis and ensure alignment with standard product capabilities
Solution Selection, Design & Technical Recommendation
- Develop system-level solutions using standard or minimally modified product platforms
- Select appropriate motors, drives, gearing, and control components based on application requirements
- Perform basic system design, calculations, and validation of proposed solutions
- Provide clear technical recommendations aligned with performance, cost, and scalability objectives
Technical Documentation Development
- Generate complete technical documentation packages, including:
- System architecture diagrams, Product selection documentation, Performance calculations and assumptions, application notes and integration guidelines
- Ensuring documentation is accurate, standardized, and suitable for internal and customer use
New Business Development (NBD) & Sales Support
- Partner with Sales to support new business opportunities through technical engagement
- Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, and solution presentations
- Support proposal development, including technical content and solution positioning
- Contribute to improving win rates through strong technical differentiation
Product Management & Engineering Collaboration
- Provide structured feedback to Product Management on gaps, opportunities, and emerging application needs
- Collaborate with Engineering to validate feasibility and identify minor product modifications when required
- Support continuous improvement of standard product platforms based on application insights
Deployment & Post-Sales Support
- Support solution implementation, including integration and commissioning guidance
- Troubleshoot issues and provide technical support during deployment
- Ensure solutions perform as expected in real-world applications
Product Training for Commercial Team
- Support development and delivery of training materials for Sales and commercial teams
- Educate internal stakeholders on product capabilities, application considerations, and solution approaches
- Support knowledge transfer to improve overall technical competency across the organization
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field required
- 3–7 years of experience in design engineering, application engineering, or systems engineering within automation or motion control
- Strong understanding of motion control systems, electric motors, drives, and gearing technologies
- Experience with system-level design and integration in industrial or automation environments
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical and scalable technical solutions
- Familiarity with CAD tools, system modeling, or engineering analysis tools preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface directly with customers
- Ability to work cross-functionally in dynamic, customer-driven environments
- Customer-focused mindset with strong collaboration skills
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Both Domestic and International Travel up to 20%
