About the role
You will own the end-to-end data ingestion processes, including designing and operating workflow orchestration and data-quality controls. Additionally, you will implement data-protection measures and provide technical mentorship to the analytics and engineering teams.
What they look for
Requirements
The role requires 5+ years of experience in data engineering with strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and cloud data warehouse platforms. Candidates must have production experience with orchestrators and a solid understanding of data security, ingestion tooling, and infrastructure as code.
Full description
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will build and run the platform Bokra’s data team stands on: reliable pipelines from our app, payment, marketing and CRM systems into the warehouse, orchestrated, tested, secured and observable.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own data ingestion from production databases and third-party platforms (mobile attribution, customer engagement, CRM and payment gateways) into the data warehouse.
- Design, implement and operate workflow orchestration (e.g. Airflow, Dagster or dbt with a scheduler), including monitoring, alerting and recovery.
- Establish data-quality controls and reconciliations covering completeness, freshness and source-to-warehouse totals, including reconciliation with external custodians.
- Build pipelines to process application and engagement event data, including semi-structured JSON, into analysis-ready structures.
- Implement data-protection controls in partnership with Compliance, including masking and tokenisation of personal identifiers, role- and row-level access, and secrets management.
- Optimise warehouse performance and cost, including separation of ingestion, transformation and reporting workloads.
- Administer the BI platform as usage scales to 20–30 users, covering access governance, performance, caching and licence management.
- Plan and lead platform migrations in line with the evolving data-warehouse strategy.
- Define data contracts with backend Engineering for source-system data and event tracking.
- Provide technical mentorship to analytics engineering and engineering staff supporting the data platform.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years in data engineering, with at least one platform you designed or substantially rebuilt.
- Strong Python and SQL; production experience with an orchestrator (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect or similar).
- Cloud data warehouse experience (Redshift, BigQuery or Snowflake), including performance tuning and cost control.
- Ingestion tooling (Airbyte, Fivetran, Debezium or custom CDC) and working with third-party APIs and file exports.
- Data-quality testing and monitoring in production.
- Security fundamentals: IAM, secrets management, masking, access control.
- Arabic and English for working with business and compliance teams.
Additional Qualifications
- AWS (Redshift, S3, Glue, IAM) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
- Financial data: payment gateway callbacks, ledgers, balances, custodian files.
- Streaming or near-real-time event processing.
- Experience under a financial regulator’s data and outsourcing rules.
