Full description

GrammaTech is actively seeking an Embedded Software Test Engineer to join our team in Linthicum, Maryland. The team is composed of intelligent individuals, passionate about hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) bench automation, test harness orchestration, and continuous integration workflows. The team is growing and looking for someone with an embedded software testing and automation background who has an understanding of how to use test harnesses and automated bench environments for embedded software verification. What you will do

  • Leverage test harnesses to accelerate software and firmware security verification in support of reverse engineering and vulnerability research missions.
  • Automate target device execution, bench instrument control, and continuous software test suites to enable rapid and reproducible test setups.
  • Operate under minimal supervision guided by operational practices to validate software behavior, system execution states, and patch deployment.

What you will need (basic qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Demonstrated experience designing or using automated test harnesses, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) setups, or test bench environments.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Python, C, or C++, or Rust for bench automation, test scripting, and peripheral bus communications.
  • Proven capability in establishing continuous integration pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and containerized execution infrastructure (Docker).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware debugging protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, JTAG) and embedded bus monitoring.
  • Ability to provide on-site support in Linthicum, Maryland daily

Nice to have (preferred)

  • Experienced in triaging, validating, and remediating security vulnerabilities detected by artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with target emulation and virtualization platforms (QEMU, Docker) for hybrid physical/virtual testbed execution.
  • Experience integrating hardware instrumentation (power supplies, digital relays, logic analyzers) into continuous test pipelines.
  • Basic understanding of software patch verification techniques, firmware execution monitoring, and automated test suite creation.

Security Clearance:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph required

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $135,000-$200,000 annually. This range reflects the Company's good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the scope and level of the role, relevant experience, technical expertise, education, and other job-related qualifications.
